Texas Tech must stop using affirmative action under deal with Trump administration

.......the Department of Justice (DOJ) backed a group of Asian-American students who claimed Harvard University discriminated against them in the admissions process, with DOJ attorneys saying evidence indicates that the school's race-based admissions process puts Asian-Americans at a disadvantage. Harvard has argued no applicants are denied admission based solely on their race.

The Department of Education’s civil rights division will require Texas Tech University to end its consideration of race in the admissions process, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The agreement between the university and the Trump administration was reached in February and marks the conclusion of a 14-year investigation, according to a copy of the resolution agreement viewed by the Journal.

The move marks the first time the Trump administration has requested a school curb its affirmative-action practices, and suggests Education Secretary Betsy DeVos may employ a similar tactic with other schools.
