Invasion of the New Normals

Via Terry

They’re here! No, not the pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. We’re not being colonized by giant alien fruit. I’m afraid it is a little more serious than that. People’s minds are being taken over by a much more destructive and less otherworldly force … a force that transforms them overnight into aggressively paranoid, order-following, propaganda-parroting totalitarians.

You know the people I’m talking about. Some of them are probably your friends and family, people you have known for years, and who had always seemed completely rational, but who are now convinced that we need to radically alter the fabric of human society to protect ourselves from a virus that causes mild to moderate flu-like symptoms (or absolutely no symptoms at all) in over 95% of those infected, and that over 99.6% survive, which, it goes without saying, is totally insane.

  1. I do not understand how any conservative minded person could be friends with those others. They are so far into the intellectual hinterlands they may as well be aliens. Yet they are tolerated, even to become friends.

These persons didn't radicalize overnight. Sure, in the example of the college student, they go just as you raised them but they return four years later barely recognizable: even censuring you as the chief antagonist in their measly lives. Even then the process took time measured in years.

It was your tolerance which diminished your ability to at least realize the seriousness of the matter if not altogether preventing you from seeing the change. You rationalized that it wasn't that bad, it is only a phase in them, they'll snap out of it. And when they didn't, nay, that they rallied ever more for 'the cause', you retreated to a forlorn remembrance of what once was. But you tolerated.

People terrorized, even murdered in cold blood. Stores looted, cities burned. Law enforcement taunted and pushed into retreat. Fear taking root in the people. Because they are tolerated.

Now we have whole generations infecting the country with that which we had formerly fought tooth and nail. And those generations were of us. I do not believe these are our last days. I believe in the strength of America. But Americans have to snap out of their stupor.

  2. Like Reagan stated in a speech, "those who would trade our freedom
for security have embarked on a downward course."
Gov. Cooper said he has a right to take our freedoms away.
No, he does not. He can advise but people are free to make
their own choice and rationalize the situation to their
    satisfaction.
I've seen this movie three times. The ending was a let down.
    They won.

    2. No, I mean the movie 'The Invasion of the Body Snatchers'.
      The body snatchers won.
But, Cooper did say he had the power to take away our
freedoms. Said this yesterday. What a narcissistic puke.
