Interesting account. What a horrible battle. A great many POW'a from Stalingrad never returned. Paulus and staff should've pulled out, broke out, or surrendered earlier. He gives his reasons, but it seems he was under a spell of obedience. Orders.
They say there wasn't enough gas to break out but they could have requested volunteers to man the tanks that would be left behind to cover the machines that would attempt a break out. Also, they don't mentioned that Paulus made broadcasts from Moscow in an attempt to help his captors.
