Texas & MSM

Please disregard the MSM; things in Texas are not as bad as they make out.  Been a tough ten days but it's winter. Our winter always comes around February.  There are ALWAYS idiots totally unprepared for cold weather, I don't care where you are.

Yes, power was out.  Yes roads iced up. The nature of the storm made that inevitable.  Freezing sleet fell for half a day, then snow fell on top of that then hard single digit freezes crusted that snow with more ice.  Literally, once in a lifetime storm. Weather service gave plenty of warning, people ignored it.  Our water lines are not as deep as Minnesota or Maine. Our overhead power lines ice up just like Buffalo, NY.  Nothing unusual, except the deep and extended freeze. Minneapolis weather in the sunbelt, so it was unusual.  Some people suffered more than others.  So it is every year.

Texas is like everywhere else. People will piss away money on foolishness and ignore the possibilities of hard times. Lotta bitchers aren't from here, they come expecting sub tropical pleasures and easy living, with no idea of what a Blue Norther means.  It is a truth, that the only thing between Texas and the North Pole is barb wire fence. You won't hear much from Amarillo, they get this stuff every year.  San Antonio and Houston panic at anything. Austin is silly cone valley east.  Damn few responsible adults there.  Stoners and Gothix, mostly.

Back around 1886-87 there was a Great Blizzard, killed millions of beef cattle.  Literally millions.  Froze ém to death standing.  Lot of ém got caught by the then new fences and died in great drifts.   This was our turn.  Kinda fun.

The power companies are for profit enterprises.  There's no economic sense in building here, for Alberta conditions. Bandera is not Bangor . . . so you build to suit our normal conditions, which is hot, and provide for emergency situations when its not.  We're eighty years old, haven't missed a meal, or failed to wash up through the whole show, in our own house. 8' this morning, 6-8" of frozen snow on the ground, and the dogs went out to play in it.  Rowdy loves cold weather.

  1. Don't get me wrong. I hold Texans, in general, in high regard.

Nevertheless, Houston and large parts of Texas get hammered by a hurricane three years ago, and Texans suffered for weeks. Yet, Houston and much of Texqs lost electrical service on Monday, and stories are being written about how many Texans are without food and water by Thursday? It would be funny if it weren't so sad about what it tells us about human beings. It is, plainly and simply, a Darwin Test.

I look at the video of people in line for free food and water, and then wonder just how much these same people spent on cigarettes, alcohol, and other frivolities in the past year.

Is the "gubment" always supposed to rescue people from self-inflicted injuries and their bad life choices?

  2. We were all set food wise, but some dumb-ass forgot to check the big propane tank and we ran out on Sat.

Then the rolling blackouts hit and the well froze up.
We were lucky to have tank top heaters for the propane tanks, so didn't hurt that bad, but now I'm hearing about electric bills in the thousands.

THAT is going to suck. If I have to I can pay it, but the people living on fixed incomes and lees well off than we are are really going to be hurting.

    1. Kurt my propane company offers a keep full program. They offer a monthly payment
program based on your last years usage. I started February with 68% and now at 36% on a 250 gallon tank. Yeah, used more gas in the last week than since November. I’m North of DFW. Good luck.
