Summer Vacation Hotspots Say They’ll Shut Down Rather Than Hire Young Americans

 Hotel customers on summer vacations

Many of the businesses that used to provide employment to American teenagers are now so dependent on foreign workers that they say they’ll cut back on their business or shut down entirely this summer because of delays in getting visas.

That is a shocking choice given the fact that millions of Americans remain out of work. More than 17.4 million Americans are collecting some form of unemployment insurance right now. While many of those workers are arguably over-qualified for summer jobs at hotels, restaurants, and retail stores in popular summer destinations, there are plenty of Americans looking for jobs who would be good candidates—but employers act as if they cannot be hired.

  1. WHICH places? NAME NAMES so Americans can boycott them or stfu. This kind of whining is useless and demoralizing.

  2. I hate to say this, but teenagers today don't want to work. The majority of them have had everything handed to them all their lives by Mommy and Daddy or Mommy and Daddy don't work so why should they. We've got a spoiled generation of teenagers occupying America now. The small amount of them that are willing to get a job aren't dependable. They think starting time is just a suggestion but quiting time is definite.

  3. It's a multiifacted problem. Younger Americans have essentially NO work ethic. They demand higher wages and benefits IF they work and can't be relied upon. Foreign/illegals will work for less and aren't inclined to
"rock the boat" while at work. Employers are humans...and like ALL humans they want the most return for the least investment. Thus business will gladly bribe politicians to keep the flow of foreign laborers flowing. To solve the problem we have to find a solution to the ages old problem of political corruption. Don't hold your breath.

    3. Thanks. I would think you would have many Indians, but they speak English as a native, though with an accent.
