Robert E. Lee: The Soldier

*“He was a foe without hate; a friend without treachery; a soldier without cruelty; a victor without oppression, and a victim without murmuring…a Christian without hypocrisy…He was a Caesar, without his ambition; Frederick, without his tyranny; Napoleon, without his selfishness, and Washington, without his reward.”[1]
– Senator Benjamin Harvey Hill.

*This is on an oil painting I have of Lee by my Great Aunt Dixie, below with her Mammy. LINK

  1. I am happy I got to see Monument Row in Richmond before all this bullshit started. A beautiful area that is now gone forever. Where are the statues?
