BS. They only claim to be hiring so they won't hafta repay the paycheck protection program loans. The few who need help either require masking or proof of vax or don't offer a living wage or some combination.
We are and have been short staffed for over 6 months. To be honest we've had bad issues getting people to work since 2017 when we bought the store, but that's what we get for hiring in a big city like Raleighstan.
Even though we are spending $800 a month advertising for help and paying more than ever, few, if any apply. Of those who apply if we call 10 only 2 or maybe 3 will answer or bother to call back. Of those, if you get 1 or 2 to show up for the interview and offer them jobs you might get one to show up for work and if that one makes it past the first week you consider yourself blessed. Most simply either don’t show up or walk out after a day or two and never even bother to let you know they quit, much less why.
We are just a small business and have been short staffed when about 3 months ago we lost roughly half our staff in a week. One quite because she got tickets to a free concert and was upset because we wouldn’t call someone else in to work in her place so she just quit. The other 6 we lost that week gave no reason whatsoever, they simply stopped showing up for work.
There will be a price to pay for this laziness but as long as they keep 'printing' money out of nowhere the cost is hidden and I'll be more than willing to bet that those who will complain about the bill coming due are the same ones who won't work and think this is some kind of a joke.
In the end if you pay people not to work they tend not to work.
Regarding Unknown's "Living Wage". I found out many, many years ago that I could live better on any wage better than I could on no wage. I suggest Uknown go ask some elderly retired person living on Social Security what our government determines they can live on.
