'I have the right to protect myself:' Washington man shoots, kills suspected home burglar

A resident shot and killed a home intruder in Spanaway early Thursday, and a second suspect escaped, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said the 31-year-old resident, Jerahme Smith, shot at two men who tried to break into his house near A St. E. and 165th St. E. around 4:00 a.m.

The homeowner told police he shot at the suspects as they kicked in his back door. The intruders then ran into the front yard where deputies later found one of the suspects dead. The other suspect ran off.

  1. Sadly one got away. Now Mr. Smith must wonder if that survivor will decide to return...with some friends...to avenge his partner in crime.
    Many criminals think that way.

  2. Need to spend more time at the range.

    1 outta 2 ain't bad, but...

  3. Many invasion/attacks are designed to prevent the target from having the time to respond. Having a perimeter that slows the bad boys down while requiring lots of noise provides the best chance of defender survival.

Know the laws in your jusidiction. There are alot of Prosecutors/DAs who believe that there is no justification for "self-defense". That was why Rittenhouse was persecuted. That is the "partner in crime" that you have to be concerned about.

      Or anything else logical.

    2. No, this is absolutely the truth. One reason I moved out if new yawk...
In that state, you do not have right to self defense. I asked a sheriff about it when trying to get a pistol permit (ahem, exercise my 2A rights...). Cop said don't bother, can't shoot the perp anyways. Have to call cops. Sad but true.

    3. There was a elderly vet in Florida who called the police
as a beast was trying to break into his home. The police
never came so when the beast got in, the vet shot him.
Come to find out the police were parked at the end of
his street but never approached his home. Makes no
sense. The 911 operator told him not to shoot the criminal
but self defense wins out every time.

  4. Here is just ONE of the problems we have in our Constitutional
2nd Amendment country. Always somebodies working against
    the foundation of our country:
    Alan Dershowitz said:

“I support abolishing self defence. No one has the right to take responsibility for their own defence. That’s what the police are for … I’m in favour of broad controls on guns. If I oppose individuals defending themselves, I have to support police defending them. I have to support a police state.”
All these mass shootings are to make the weaklings subvert guns.

    1. This is the police and swat team responding to the
Columbine shooting of thirteen Christian students
      and only Christian students:
"The bloody rampage spanned four hours ... By 3:45 p.m., shots still rang out inside the school (as) more than 200 law enforcement officers and four SWAT teams tried to stop the gunmen and evacuate wounded high school students…." (Denver Post, April 21, 1999). Another quoted Jefferson County Sheriff John Stone, one of the first officials on the scene, as saying: "We had initial people there right away, but we couldn't get in. We were way outgunned" (Associated Press, April 20, 1999).
Yea, they were outgunned by shotguns and 9mm.
The police and swat team stood outside for two hrs without
      attempting to enter the school.
Parkland, the cop stood outside while the carnage continued.
The police aren't the answer; you are.

  5. I posted this before, but I'll say it again. In 1990 a law was passed effectively prohibiting the adults in a school from protecting the children; the Gun Free School Zones act.  After that the school shootings started, but the act was not rescinded.  (One wonders if that was intentional, for political reasons.  After all, it was then just a matter of waiting for the occasional nutcase. Good for the Dems.) A prayer at the beginning of the school day, over the PA, wouldn't hurt either.
