“Paratrooper” M1 carbine

Got my hands on an Auto Ordnance M1 carbines in folding and standard configurations. I prefer the two-aperture flip sight because it doesn’t jump settings on recoil like the M2 ladder sight. I also like the wood better than the perforated metal heat shield I had on the IAI carbines some years ago. Since I’ve had better luck with 30rd magazines than with 15s in the past, I featured these in the photos. M1C is often called “the girlfriend gun” for its light weight and small size, but it was used by men like Audy Murphy and Jim Cirillo to great effect. With soft point ammunition, it approximates the effect of a .357 Magnum carbine — with 30 round capacity. Spare magazines are slim and fit in jeans pockets — you can see the embossing of a 30-rounder over the left pocket in the photo below.

Detroit citizens no longer rely on police as self-defense killings skyrocket

The people of Detroit are taking no prisoners.

Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies.

“We got to have a little Old West up here in Detroit. That’s what it’s gonna take,” Detroit resident Julia Brown told The Daily.

The last time Brown, 73, called the Detroit police, they didn’t show up until the next day. So she applied for a permit to carry a handgun and says she’s prepared to use it against the young thugs who have taken over her neighborhood, burglarizing entire blocks, opening fire at will and terrorizing the elderly with impunity.

“I don’t intend to be one of their victims,” said Brown, who has lived in Detroit since the late 1950s. “I’m planning on taking one out.”

Was that the Super Bowl or the Obama Bowl?

What an interesting Super Bowl Sunday. The game went right down to the wire, but in addition to the Patriots and Giants being on center stage, Barack Obama was given his share of airtime as well. Come on! Can't we just keep the Super Bowl about football? First, there was an NBC interview with Obama in which he said he deserved a second term. Really? Then, there was the Clint Eastwood "Halftime in America" ad which basically was a plug for auto bailouts and Barack Obama.

During the NBC interview, Obama actually stated that he deserves a second term. Unreal. For what? For sky-high unemployment? For being the only president in history to run trillion dollar deficits in every year of office?

Catholic League Poised To Go To War In The Streets With Obama Over Mandatory Birth Control Payments

Donohue Says 70 Million Of His Voters Ready To Alter Presidential Election

Catholic leaders upped the ante Monday, threatening to challenge the Obama administration over a provision of the new health care law that would require all employers, including religious institutions, to pay for birth control.

As CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer reports, it could affect the presidential elections.

Catholic leaders are furious and determined to harness the voting power of the nation’s 70 million Catholic voters to stop a provision of President Barack Obama’s new heath car reform bill that will force Catholic schools, hospitals and charities to buy birth control pills, abortion-producing drugs and sterilization coverage for their employees.

“Never before, unprecedented in American history, for the federal government to line up against the Roman Catholic Church,” said Catholic League head Bill Donohue.

Already Archbishop Timothy Dolan has spoken out against the law and priests around the country have mobilized, reading letters from the pulpit. Donohue said Catholic officials will stop at nothing to put a stop to it.

“This is going to be fought out with lawsuits, with court decisions, and, dare I say it, maybe even in the streets,” Donohue said.

First Run of Lou Chenot's 1/6 scale Duesenberg engine

Roundabout viaCousin Colby

Louis Chenot of Carl Junction, Missouri has been working on a spectacular model of a Duesenberg automobile for a number of years. His goal was always to have everything function on the model car including the engine. That has finally been achieved. The first run on March 15th was accomplished using propane for fuel and a model airplane carburetor. Now that ignition is confirmed to be working, Lou is changing back to a scale carburetor and gas for fuel to see if it will run that way too, but just getting a 1/6 scale straight eight with 4 valves per cylinder to run at all on any fuel is quite an accomplishment. All of us in the model engine community congratulate Lou Chenot on this great achievement in model engineering. Watch, listen and enjoy--you won't see another engine like this. To learn more about Lou and the model car, visit Lou's page in the On-line Museum of Craftsmanship at www.CraftsmanshipMuseum.com/Chenot.htm.

Obama in 2001: How to bring about “redistributive change”

Via PumaByDesign

The blogosphere is buzzing about this video posted on YouTube Sunday night. It’s Barack Obama musing about how best to redistribute wealth in America in a Chicago Public Radio interview in 2001.

Not whether, but how: Through the courts or through legislation?

A caller asks The One to explain how he would do “reparative economic work.” Obama gives the legislative route two thumbs up as his preferred method of “breaking free of the constraints” placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution and then burbles about cobbling together the “actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change.”

Is the Republican Party Committing Political Suicide?

It's long overdue.

It took the North Korean government 50 hours after the death of Kim Jong-Il to decide what lie they will present to the public concerning the death of the Dear Leader.

It took the Republican leadership in Nevada almost as long to decide what lie they will present to the public concerning the caucus results in their state. What should have been announced Sunday early in the morning, took another day, plus actions that cast doubts over the honesty of the counting process. And the results just defy the obvious facts and common sense.

To start with, both CNN and FOX News declared Romney as the “winner” when only 4% of the results were in. That anyone would be so sure with only 4% of the results beats any logic. But the MSM continued declaring the victory for their darling without even explaining how they would know he was the winner.

May there wouldn’t be much of an outcry if the Adelson precinct in Clark County didn’t decide to broadcast the counting of the vote at the precinct. CNN and FOX News were there, and reported from the event. It was about 11pm on Saturday. Why so late? So that observant Jews – a great part of the population of the precinct, could vote after sunset. Observant Jews are also know to be the group least inclined to vote for Ron Paul – according to the neocon myths, Ron Paul is “against Israel.”

An hour after the vote started, the numbers were announced: Ron Paul – 183 votes, Mitt Romney – 45 votes, and the others had even less. Ron Paul captured 58 percent of the votes in that precinct. Suddenly, after the announcement was made, FOX News and CNN decided that there is nothing more to report from Nevada, and imposed a complete blackout on any news about the caucuses, until late in the next day.

Now, there is no reason to believe the Adelson precinct is very much different from the other precincts in Clark County. One would expect about the same results in the other precincts as well. May be, given the fact that Ron Paul’s popularity among observant Jews is so low, the other precincts would have had even greater percentage of voters for him.

But Clark County holds about 53 percent of the votes of the state of Nevada. Which means that if Ron Paul won Clark County, he won the state.
