Mom Gets $2,500 Ticket After Son, 3, Urinates In Front Yard

Via Battlefield USA

A 3 year old gets his mom in trouble with the law when he gets a ticket from police. Now the little boy's mother will have to pay thousands of dollars for what the toddler did in their own front yard.
Dillan is being potty trained. His mother says he wasn't playing outside and wasn't near the facilities, so he unzipped.

News 9 was told before he could pee, a Piedmont police officer stopped him. It's a bathroom break that cost mom $2,500.

"Dillan pulled down his pants to pee outside. I guess and the cop pulled up and asked for my license and told me he was going to give me a ticket for public urination," the boy's mother, Ashley Warden, said.

"I said really, he is 3 years old, and he said it doesn't matter," said Dillan's grandmother, Jennifer Warden. "[He said] It is public urination. I said we are on our property and he said it's in public view."

The family lives on two-and-a-half acres and says the street is actually quite rural; but they say the officer who cited them parks at the end of their street daily. So they asked why.
"It's a public street and he wants to, so he can," Jennifer Warden said.

Philly poll workers partially cover Obama mural after court order, leaving logo and quote in view

Via NC Renegade

Workers at a Philadelphia polling place, after being ordered by a judge to cover up a mural of President Obama "in its entirety," slapped up a few pieces of paper that only partially covered his image -- while leaving the Obama campaign logo and a quote from the current president in full view for voters.

The judge's orders followed a wave of complaints from Republican officials concerned the giant image of the president could influence voters at the site, a school in Ward 35.

The mural, positioned behind the voting machines, contains the words "change!" and "hope," along with a quote from the president and painting of him. Poll workers only covered up part of the mural, though, leaving the Obama campaign logo and other parts of the image visible, as well as the Obama quote.

Poll workers claimed only the face had to be covered.

Republicans quickly drew attention to the image Tuesday morning, with one Mitt Romney spokesman tweeting: "Voters in Philly's Ward 35 are being forced to cast their ballots next to this."

Justice Scalia: “I Don’t Know That I’m Optimistic” About Restoring Original Understanding Of Constitution

121005_scalia_2

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says he is not very confident that the Constitution can be restored to its original meaning and intent following the 2012 term.
In discussing his new book Reading Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts, Scalia likened himself as the Lord of the Rings character “Frodo” who continues to fight the good fight uncertain of whether he will win in the end.
In discussing the book at Stanford University, Peter Robinson of the Hoover Institution quoted from the book:
“Originalism does not always provide an easy answer, or even a clear one. Originalism is not perfect. But it is more certain than any other criterion, and it is not too late to restore a strong sense of judicial fidelity to texts.”
His question to Scalia was, “This book, for that matter your entire career, represents a sustained, determined effort at restoration. Are you optimistic? How’s the project coming?”
Scalia responded, “That’s an unfair question, especially after last term. I dissented in the last 6 cases announced last term. So I don’t know. I don’t know that I’m optimistic. The fight is worth fighting, win or lose. You know, [like] Frodo in the Lord of the Rings.”

72% of Small Business Owners Pick Romney–How Will You Vote?

This is it, folks. Today is Election Day, 2012. It seems like it’s been said about every election, but this is truly the most important presidential election in our lifetimes. This election will decide if we regain our standing as the world economic superpower, or we continue to fall down the rabbit hole to wonderland (also known as Greece).

This election is not only about independents, but base voters as well. This election is about the middle class and the wealthy, big business and small business, men and women, young and old. This election will set the course for every American, not just a particular voting block.
Pundits on both sides are trying to convince you to vote for the candidate they think is best. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Alex Wagner and Lawrence O’Donnell continue to race and gender bait; trying to tie anything Romney says into a pre-constructed narrative about Republican hatred of minorities and women. Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram, and Rush Limbaugh continue to dissect the liberal agenda with a scalpel, preaching to a choir and to the deaf ears of half the electorate. But how will you cast your vote?

Strip away everything else: the polls, the slogans, the mud-slinging and the opinion makers. If there is one person or type of person who’s opinion you trust, who would it be? For me, it’s small business owners; they are the drivers of the economy. Those of them who are successful clearly know what business needs in order to thrive.

2006 Dodge Viper SRT/10 Coupe First Edition Hennessey Prepared 'Fly Navy' Venom 1000

Consider that it takes an Indy car about 2 laps of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - 5 miles - to warm up to its top speed of approximately 220 MPH.

Hold that thought while we point out that for Road & Track’s 2007 Speed Kings cover feature shootout at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California, this 2006 Hennessey Venom 1000 Twin Turbo Viper tore off a 0-to-200 MPH blast of 20.3 seconds, in just 3488 feet – less than three quarters of a mile! Even better, it reached 220.9 MPH in the standing mile to take the win in R&T’s first annual “Drag Race for Supercars.” No anomaly, that feat; the car turned in the same blistering performance for features in Motor Trend and Germany’s Auto Bild.

One of only 24 Hennessy Venom 1000 Vipers built, its secret is the twin turbocharged V-10 that calibrates launches with a computer-regulated progressive power delivery that starts at 800 horsepower and increases to its peak of 1,100 beginning at 120 MPH. Summing up his experience in piloting this “Fly Navy” rocket for Road & Track’s feature story, veteran race driver Steve Millen opined, "I'd say the Hennessey Viper is by far the most spectacular car I've driven today.”
High praise indeed, but completely justified for a car that can trailer practically anything else on the road – or the runway!

Counter Insurgency and the Regular Army

During the Cold War the US Army and US Marine Corps pushed to Special Forces and Force Recon the job of "counter guerilla" and "counter insurgent."

When facing the Russian Bear at sometimes spitting distances the Top Brass had to prioritize men, equipment, and training.  The choice they made emphasized conventional fire and maneuver tactics to support two strategic goals, 1. Prevent war by maintaining a professional Army ready to respond at a moments notice, and 2. In the event of failure of Goal #1, win on the field of battle.

During the Cold War units from SOCOM did all the "back of nowhere brush wars" that were not on the strategic radar of our national interests.  Green Berets deployed all over South America fighting Communism and Drug Cartels, and South America has been relatively stable as a result.  The low level insurgency in the Philippines has seen constant US support to the legitimate Filipino government.  You could say that Green Berets have been going after MILF since the 1980s.  (Get your head out of the gutter, MILF is the Moro Islamic Liberation Front).

The doctrine, tactics, and strategies embraced by Regular Army Combat Arms Officers was highly efficient (and still is) at creating leaders who could win tactical engagements on the field of battle.  We saw how this failed to work in Vietnam, where Counter Insurgency (COIN) was actively discouraged by top Army brass.

The British Army, with a long heritage of "Empire Policemen" to live up to, did not divorce the function of "counter insurgent" from their Regular Officers, and taught that civil support via military operations is a legitimate function of the Regular Army.  Comparing the British response to the insurgency in Malaya against the American response to Vietnam as John Nagl did in "Learning to eat soup with a knife" makes it clear that if the Regular Army wants to be good at counter insurgency, it has to maintain a tradition of counter insurgency in the regular Army.

Early in the Vietnam conflict Green Berets were generally doing what we consider "effective COIN tactics" in building up local security, supporting the local villages, and growing the native forces to deal with the insurgents.

Disclaimer - A reality check

Well, I have to be careful what I post, because I currently serve in the USAR. The reason I have not posted for a few days is because I was just away on a three day 'Battle Assembly'.  We were supposed to be parachuting, but the three aircraft dropped to one and then the final one was taken away to help with all those who failed to prep in the New Jersey area...that's a different topic.

So, we did some training locally. Because of all that I have read in recent months about ghastly government plans, FEMA armored vehicles etc, I was mindful of that as we drove through the local neighborhoods in our Humvees. We had occasion to stop and do some 'hearts and minds' with the local population, with a dog that had escaped its yard. As I knocked on the door in the early morning in my ACUs and tactical vest, I was mindful of the news I have seen related to SWAT teams arresting grandmas, cops Tazing 10 year olds, FEMA armored vehicles and all that. I did not want to be seen in that way. I was very sensitive to it, maybe too sensitive. It went well, I frightened no-one, and the lady was grateful for the return of her dog. I was polite, and backtracked out of there, visualizing photos and news articles about federal troops conducting house to house search operations in the local neighborhood.

Now, I am open to the potential for abuse of power, should we continue the slide towards a police surveillance state, Indeed, one of the reasons that I have not posted much lately is that I am currently writing a fiction book with the premise that we are in a civil war, post economic collapse, between Constitutional Patriots and a totalitarian Regime. In that scenario, some veterans are fighting with the resistance, others continue to serve in the Regime forces. I also see these posts about abuse of power by law enforcement, lack of accountability, and it worries and sickens me. So I am writing this not to argue against the potential or reality of such possible outcomes. I am writing to inject some good common sense.
