Noah's Ark finally on way to America

 

A life-sized replica of Noah’s Ark – the biblical vessel on which God saved people and animals when the earth was flooded as punishment for mankind’s sins – is coming to the U.S. and is expected to draw more than a million Americans every year.

The story of “Noah” is coming to the big screen, too. Hollywood used models, sets, stages and other tricks of the movie trade to create those stunning images.

But what’s being planned by Answers in Genesis ministry chief Ken Ham will not be a model, a set or a stage, and it will not be a trick produced by a camera.

It will be a life-size version of Noah’s Ark, at 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and three stories high, and it will be used as an evangelism tool in his outreach to unbelievers.

He announced Thursday that funding for the first phase has been put in place, and groundbreaking on the project is expected in only weeks – sometime in May.

The Ark Encounter will be built on 800 acres adjacent to Interstate 75 at Williamstown, Ky., bringing hundreds of jobs to the community.

Is the “Kids Act” Amnesty Really Just for Kids? Probably Not

Eric Cantor and John Boehner's Kids Act amnesty might look compassionate,  but it is really a dam-breaker, the hardship of which would fall on Americans,  including their children. I think its results and precedents would essentially end any possibility of immigration control.

Nor would it gain Republicans any votes (substantiated by at least two CIS studies.)  To the contrary, they would quickly be overwhelmed by the tidal wave of new voters favoring big government health and welfare programs by about 75 percent.

The most immediate result would be a drop off in Republican turnout. This was the unanticipated result of a CIS study of the 2006 elections. Actually, it should have been anticipated. Conservative disgust with liberal policies is logical. The 2006 study did not demonstrate the degree except to say that the drop off occurrence was substantiated statistically with at least 95 percent confidence level.  My own calculation using the same data would indicate at least a 10 percent drop off in Republican turnout, for example: falling from 50 percent to 45 percent . It would be higher if voters knew more about immigration issues and could associate them with candidates. Keeping the loss to 10 percent assumes that voters continue to  remain in a low-information status on immigration. That would be disaster enough. But if many Republicans become aware that the whole amnesty is a corrupt bargain to maintain and increase cheap labor profits, it could be analogous to Napoleon marching an army of 600,000 to Moscow in winter.

One Republican problem seems to be the DC/PC intellectual straight-jacket  that compels Republican consultants and staffers to assume that the liberal Eastern media is the Republican constituency.

Gun Confiscation: “Ma’am, It Sounds Like You’re Anti-American.”

Connecticut State Police Spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance, who spent far too many sad hours in front of the cameras talking to the media about the Sandy Hook massacre, has been fielding calls lately about the state’s gun ban and registration provisions. The deadline to register so-called “assault weapons” and standard capacity magazines with the state passed on December 31.

Only 50,000 firearms and 38,000 magazines were registered. Perhaps another 350,000 firearms belong to those who refused to register their arms. Nearly 2 million magazines are thought to remain unregistered.

These unregistered firearms and magazines are thought to belong to 80,000-100,000 gun owners who view the law as a blatantly unconstitutional infringement upon the very spirit of Second Amendment, and a prelude to confiscation.

As a result of rising fear and anger in the state, Vance has been fielding many calls about the law, and in specific, fears that police SWAT units might start kicking in doors to arrest those that did not comply.

Those most obviously in danger of being arrested at this time are 106 rifle owners and and 108 magazine owners who tried to register their arms, too late. The government knows exact who they are through their botched registrations, and sent them letters giving them options on how to surrender their arms and magazines.

A woman claiming to be the wife of one of these 106 rifle owners called Lt. Vance, and got into a very heated discussion with him.

USDA: Americans waste nearly one-third of their food; worth $161 billion

                        

Nearly a third of the 430 billion pounds of food produced for Americans to eat is wasted, a potential catastrophe for landfills and a wake-up call to officials scrambling to feed the hungry, according to a stunning new report from the Department of Agriculture.

The just-issued report revealed that in 2010, 31 percent, or 133 billion pounds, of food produced for Americans to eat was wasted, either molded or improperly cooked, suffered “natural shrinkage” due to moisture loss, or because people became disinterested in what they purchased.

NC: District Attorney Says No Charges After Intruder Killed In Home Invasion

The Onslow County district attorney says there will be no charges against a homeowner who shot and killed a man during a home invasion.

Deputies say Michael Holliday later died at Camp Lejeune's Naval Hospital.

Authorities say Holliday was one of four people involved in a home invasion Sunday night on Abbits Branch Lane.

District Attorney Ernie Lee met with investigators earlier in the week and said late Thursday afternoon that John Moore would not be charged.

In a statement, Lee said, "After reviewing the facts and circumstances of this case, after meeting with members of law enforcement and after considering the applicable law concerning self-defense and defense of habitation, commonly referred to as the Castle Doctrine, I have determined that the shooting death of Michael Holliday, although tragic for his family, is justified."

Suspect killed during break-in

 

Neighbors  told FOX10 News Carstarphen was the former boyfriend of the woman who lived in the house.

A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said she was asleep when a woman knocked on her door around 2 a.m. Saturday.

“My granddaughter came and she woke me up and said, ‘Mama this lady knocking on the door. She need some help,’” the woman said.

The neighbor called 911 when she came out a saw a man she recognized as the woman’s former boyfriend lying on the ground.

“I saw her kneeling over the man, and I asked her what’s wrong with him, and she never did tell me what was wrong with him. She just say, ‘Help me! Help me. Help.’ Just kept saying that over and over again,” she said.

Police said Carstarphen was shot and killed after he unlawfully forced his way into an apartment in the R.V. Taylor Housing community.

ATF agents lost track of dozens of their own guns, reports show

ATF agents have lost track of dozens of government-issued guns, after stashing them under the front seats in their cars, in glove compartments or simply leaving them on top of their vehicles and driving away, according to internal reports from the past five years obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Agents left their guns behind in bathroom stalls, at a hospital, outside a movie theater and on a plane, according to the records, obtained Tuesday by the news organization under the federal Freedom of Information Act.

In December 2009, two 6-year-old boys spotted an agent's loaded ATF Smith & Wesson .357 on a storm sewer grate in Bettendorf, Iowa. The agent lived nearby and later said he couldn't find his gun for days but didn't bother reporting it — until it hit the local newspaper.

In Los Angeles in 2011, an agent went out to a bar drinking with other agents and friends, reportedly consuming four alcoholic beverages. The next morning he woke up and realized his ATF-issued Glock was gone. It was not found.

All of the agents' names are blacked out on the reports, which do not say if the agents were disciplined. It is clear that agency rules were not followed in many of the incidents, which show at least 49 guns were lost or stolen nationwide between 2009 and 2013.

Video shows moment Syrian Army bombs huge rebel group

Syrian army troops on Wednesday killed 175 rebels, many of them al-Qaida-linked fighters, in an ambush described as one of the deadliest attacks by government forces against fighters near Damascus, according to state media.

An opposition group said the dawn ambush — part of a government effort to secure the capital — was carried out by the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which has been instrumental in helping President Bashar Assad’s regime push back rebels entrenched in the suburbs of the capital city.

Syrian state news agency SANA quoted a field commander in the eastern Ghouta area as saying most of the rebels killed in the assault near Oteibah lake southeast of Damascus belonged to the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front rebel group. The report said several of those killed were foreign fighters who came to Syria from Saudi Arabia, Chechnya and Qatar.
