Kansas University Honoring War Criminals?

 

After the rousing success of Kansas University’s redesigned football uniforms in honor of Jennison’s Jay-hawkers of 1861, a competing Kansas university also recently unveiled a special-edition football uniform in commemoration of the atrocities of that bloody time.

Planned for an upcoming series of games, the uniform features blue pants with yellow stripe and bloodied saber, and a blue jersey styled in the fashion that a Federal “Jay-hawker” Soldier serving in Kansas would have worn in the 1860’s. A splash of red blood crosses the front of the jersey, with portraits on the back of Jennison, Abraham Lincoln and John Brown smiling with halos above their heads. Each uniform will also come with a belt on which several simulated scalps will hang.

Walmart Removes T-Shirts That Call For Lynching Journalists

 

Walmart removed t-shirts from its website that called for lynching reporters after a radio association pointed out the shirts to the corporation Wednesday.

The Radio Television Digital News Association sent a letter to Walmart calling for the shirts to be removed from the site because they “openly encouraged violence” against reporters, according to NPR. The black shirts read “Rope. Tree. Journalists. Some Assembly Required” on the back.

Surprise! :) Media are being dishonest about Republican tax bill's treatment of the middle class

 

The New York Times editorial page crossed the line from spirited opinion journalism to outright activism by tweeting phone numbers of key senators and urging constituents to demand lawmakers oppose the Republican tax bill. Sadly, the publication’s activism has polluted its news coverage.

While the Republican plan is by no means perfect and can and should be improved in a number of ways, debate should at least be conducted with an intellectually honest presentation of basic facts.

The Times ran a front-page story on Thursday with the breathless headline, “G.O.P. Tax Plan Could Reshape Life in the U.S.” Though it was dubbed “analysis,” that doesn’t excuse this line, which was widely-cited on social media: “By 2027, people making $40,000 to $50,000 would pay a combined $5.3 billion more in taxes, while the group earning $1 million or more would get a $5.8 billion cut, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation and the Congressional Budget Office.” It isn’t merely misleading, but factually inaccurate. And it’s indicative of a lot of media coverage about the tax bill, so it’s worth exploring in more detail.

What tax reform will mean for you

Earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed arguably the biggest tax cut and reform of the tax code in history. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) is a bold, pro-growth tax bill aimed at improving the standard of living for all Americans, strengthening our economy, and bringing jobs back.

This legislation respects hardworking taxpayers and the challenges they face by making the tax code clearer, simpler, and fairer.  Our bill expands the current tax brackets to enable Americans to keep more of their paycheck in addition to lowering some of the rates.  Specifically, H.R. 1 lowers the 10% bracket to effectively zero, the current 15% bracket to 12%, and then retains the 25%, 35% and 39.6% brackets (Again, you will want to note the new income ranges on the right side below.)

Flynn Charged With Lying to FBI, Clapper Still Free After Committing Clear Perjury

Former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn has been charged with “willfully and knowingly” lying to the FBI about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador, charges that James Clapper has been able to avoid over 4 years after committing clear perjury when he lied under oath about the NSA’s mass surveillance of Americans.

“The charging document states that Flynn made a false statement to the FBI when he stated that in December 2016 he did not ask Kislyak “to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed against Russia that same day; and Flynn did not recall the Russian ambassador subsequently telling him that Russia had chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request,” reports CNN.

While Flynn is expected to plead guilty to making false statements, Obama’s DNI head Clapper was able to commit brazen perjury with no consequences whatsoever.

CNN: White House claims Obama admin approved Flynn calls with Russian ambassador

 

The White House said on Friday that it was the Obama administration that authorized former national security adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during President Trump's transition, according to CNN.

Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Kislyak in the month before Trump took office, the first current or former Trump White House official brought down by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's election meddling.

Court records indicate that his communications with Kislyak were directed by a Trump transition official, with multiple news outlets reporting that official was Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner.

DOJ Issues Arrest Warrant for Illegal Immigrant Acquitted in Kate Steinle Murder Case

The Department of Justice has issued a federal warrant for the arrest of an illegal immigrant who on Thursday was acquitted of murder charges in the 2015 killing of Kate Steinle in San Francisco.

A jury found Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, a Mexican immigrant who has been deported multiple times only to return to the U.S., not guilty of murder and charges of involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon. He was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Department of Justice on Friday unsealed the arrest warrant, which accuses Zarate of violating his supervised release, in the Western District of Texas, the Hill reported.

Honolulu Police Dept. to Pot Smokers: ‘You Have 30 Days to Turn over Your Guns’

 

The Honolulu Police Department is demanding that medical marijuana users turn over their firearms.
In a letter dated Nov. 13, Police Chief Susan Ballard drew a line in the sand. It’s either your weed or your guns.

“Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition,” the letter reads.

“If you currently own or have any firearms,” it continues, “you have 30 days upon receipt of this letter to voluntary surrender your firearms, permit, and ammunition to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) or otherwise transfer ownership.”
