August in Kentucky was always a special time of year when I was growing up. The waning days of summer meant squirrel season was about to open, and that hunting season in general was upon us. Many a morning was spent patrolling the woods around our farm, and many a fine meal resulted. Squirrel meat has been held in high regard by American diners since the days of Lewis and Clark. Even James Beard, in his classic “American Cookery”, wrote,

"Squirrel has been written about rapturously for years. And it has long been associated with elegant dining as well as with the simple food of the trapper and the nomad.”

Fast forward 30 or so years and squirrel season has once again taken a front-row seat.

NRA Supporters Flood Virginia Capitol, Push Dems to Change Gun-Control Bills

Thousands of NRA supporters turned out at Virginia's capitol building on Monday in a show of opposition that pushed Democrats in the state legislature to moderate or abandon some of their strictest gun-control proposals.

"We are beyond impressed by today's turnout," D.J. Spiker, Virginia state director for the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, told the Washington Free Beacon. "You can see the passion and enthusiasm that the citizens of Virginia have in joining us in this fight."

Trump sends 'the most liked Persian tweet' in history of Twitter

 

President Trump's tweet in Farsi expressing support for Iranians protesting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has already earned over 200,000 likes, making it the "most liked Persian tweet" in the social media giant's history, according to a leading think tank adviser.

On Saturday, protesters in the country called upon Khamenei to step down after Iran admitted to shooting down a commercial airliner on which dozens of Iranian citizens were traveling. That evening, the president sent out a tweet in Farsi, saying that he stands with their efforts.

“To the brave and suffering Iranian people: I have stood with you since the beginning of my presidency and my government will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely. Your courage is inspiring,” Trump wrote.

As the Year 2020 Begins–Southerners Take Stock

 

As 2020 commences it is perhaps appropriate that we take stock—that we take a look globally at just where we are, politically, culturally, religiously.

All our basic and fundamental social institutions are under tremendous stress, if not outright attack, not just legally and politically, but far more insidiously, in how they are defined and how they affect us.

Our very language is altered to reflect this radical transformation: words and phrases are banned, old words are recast and redefined, implicit (and often explicit) speech codes have more effect than anything that the older “less free” society of our grandfathers experienced. And this linguistic terrorism—for that is what it is—is inculcated into our young from the very beginning, in the primary grades, via television and Hollywood, by unthinking parents, by friends.

Poll: 47% of Young Democrats Prefer Other Countries over America

 

A shocking new poll has discovered that 47 percent of young Democrats believe that other countries are better than the United States. Moreover, many young Americans admit that they wouldn’t mind other countries becoming as militarily powerful as the United States.

Slightly more than one third — 36 percent — of Americans 18 to 29 say that other countries are better than the United

 States, according to a recent poll released by Pew

Gun control has become a hot topic issue in the Commonwealth of Virginia, especially since Gov. Blackface (also known as Ralph Northam) was re-elected last November. He has pushed his anti-gun agenda heavily, especially since Democrats took control of the state's General Assembly.

Since then, Second Amendment-loving Americans have stood up and made their voices heard. Counties have repeatedly declared themselves a sanctuary for the right to keep and bear arms. In fact, one county sheriff said he would deputize citizens should the General Assembly move forward with their proposed gun control laws, like an assault weapons ban, a "high capacity" magazine ban and a prohibition on the import, sales and possession of firearm suppressors.

Thousands of cops, veterans, supporters pledge to join militia in Virginia to combat unconstitutional laws

Things are getting really bad in Virginia. But this group isn’t going down without a fight.

Virginia – Monday morning, Law Enforcement Today reported on how Tazewell County, Virginia is crafting a militia to defend the Constitution in the state.  And within hours, we were flooded with thousands of emails from people across the state – police officers, veterans, and patriotic Americans – who said they are joining.

And it’s a movement that’s gaining traction across the state.

Wrote one man:

“I am Vietnam vet, ex-police, retired and am behind your ideas 100% , anything I can do I would like to help.

I live in Franklin County, which voted down being a sanctuary city being the council is Democratic, a moonshine county giving up their guns is dumb.
The South gave up their flag, their statues and now they want their guns, sounds like Hitler’s Germany.”
