[Publisher's Note: It is a great honor to give the address for the Battle of Secessionville Commemoration each year on the battle site at Fort Lamar Heritage Preserve on James Island, between Folly Beach and Charleston, South Carolina. In 2020, because of COVID, the Commemoration was held November 21st rather than in June, close to the battle date, and this worked out well.
What is so impressive about our Confederate ancestors in this battle is that they were greatly outnumbered and outgunned, as they were throughout the War Between the States, so to win, they had to outthink and outsmart the enemy, and they did, regularly.

Big & Rich brought the Vietnam experience back into focus with their music video, 8th Of November, inspired by the story of Vietnam veteran Niles Harris. Kris Kristofferson introduces the story and song, referring to Niles Harris as the man who gave Big Kenny his top hat. “Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his brother”, is a quote from Jesus.
Big & Rich is an American country music duo comprising Big Kenny (Kenny Alphin, former solo artist and lead singer for luvjOi) and John Rich (former vocalist and bassist of Lonestar). They first performed together in 1998. In 2002 Big & Rich were visiting Deadwood, South Dakota, on a looking for inspiration from the stark and historic city. To make ends meet they played at a saloon where Niles Harris tends bar. As they talked with Niles they heard the inspiration for their song, 8th of November.
As a 19 year old Niles was assigned to the US Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. On November 5, 1965 he joined his C Company landing in Vietnam’s War Zone D. Three days later, his Second Platoon, with just 30 men, was attacked by 1,200 soldiers of the North Vietnamese Army equipped with machine guns, claymores and sniper rifles. At the end of that fateful day, 48 Americans and over 400 North Vietnamese soldiers had died. Harris received a purple heart for his service.

National Security Advisor Michael Flynn is speaking out this week, six months after he received a full pardon from former President Donald Trump over allegations that he lied to the FBI. With the killing of the Keystone pipeline and the banning of oil extraction on public land, we now obtain more oil from Russia than from Alaska, it was announced today.
As a result of these energy depleting policies from the radical left, led by Obama surrogates, Xiden and The Dunce, gasoline prices are skyrocketing. The only good thing is that these and other policies which benefit everyone BUT Americans, will be arrested after an enormous clobbering the anti-American Socialist Democrat Party will suffer next year, and then a reversal of those policies when Trump and/or
DeSantis re-imposes a pro-American agenda and good governance such as the nation enjoyed from 2017 until the arrival of the Fauci-funded China Flu last year.
