  1. I really enjoyed watching that.

But, of all the variety of aircraft shown in the video, I did NOT see any of the Air America Pilatus PC-3 "Porter" planes, which I used to see when I stationed at the Phu Lam Signal Battalion.

    Ah, the memories!

  2. Google "Air America Porter" and you'll see all sorts of web sites about the Pilatus PC-3 Porter.

It is a STOL manufactured in Switzerland, and is not legal to operate in the United States.

I don't know why the FAA refused to license that aircraft.

It's kind of like a Bird Dog, but much larger, with a powerful engine and capacious cargo area.

The nose is quite long, and the tail looks like a sheet of plywood standing straight up.

I think the plane was used in the movie, "AIR AMERICA".

When flying missions into Laos, it would make impossible landings and takeoffs in unbelievably small clearings on the sides and/or tops of mountains.

  3. Thanks. I took a hop from TSN to Bien Hoa in a Bird Dog and the pilot showed me how quickly he could stop it once the wheels touched. Astounding!

You'll appreciate the links in the post below. I get sad every time I see a VNAF Skyraider.
