Bishop Cheshire And My Family Bishop Cheshire moved the line of his diocese in North Carolina so that it would include Tarboro, because he thought it had the best Bar B Que! He was a character. He loved to fish and once caught a huge one, then traced it on a piece paper which he kept in his pocket at all times to show people! He was close friends with my grandfather Joseph Powell Pippen who was born in Tarboro, but moved to Littleton. Once the Bishop was visiting him there when he asked my mother to come sit with him. My mother was just a child and Bishop Cheshire had an enormous stomach. After my mother pulled herself up onto his legs, she paused and stated "Bishop, where is your lap?! |
