Theater seating and self-defense

People say that any hypothetical defender at the Aurora theater would have run the risk of hitting innocent bystanders. The risk existed but consider how typical theater seats rise rise towards the back. It’s the classic “second rank fires over the heads of the first” musketeer arrangement. A perp near the screen would have been on the receiving end of all armed theater patrons simultaneously…had any armed people besides the attacker been present.

  1. Had a couple of armed citizens shot back, sure the might have hit somebody, people were running about, panicked. So, yeah, they might have hit an innocent. So what? The nutcase was firing indiscriminately. And he wasn't stopping.

Given that he was wearing body armor my little five shot .357 would probably not stopped him, either. At the very least it would have caused him to shoot at my 65 year old ass instead of those kids. That might be a worthwhile trade.

  2. Nope, three inch SP101. One really needs more weight than an LCR for a .357.

  3. Actually, let me rephrase. One only needs more weight if one is going to actually shoot the damned thing. I don't understand, we've killed off the lumber industry so there are no more lumberjacks. Coal is dead so there are no more men shoveling 13 tons. Where the hell are we getting all these people able to shoot full charge .357 ammo out of an LCR or one of those Smith Scandium, whatever they call that version of the Mod 60? I've been shooting handguns for over fifty years now and I don't like to shoot the SP101 with full power 158 gr. ammo.

  4. I had the LCR in .38 and now in .357. You do have more of a kick, needless to say from the .357, but the only thing I particularly noticed was that it stings your hand. I shoot Speer LE 158 GR. GDHP. No problem at all using this in the mode it was intended, self-defense. It is definitely not a target gun though:) I would rather have either my Glock 21 or 30, but have found that this is the only weapon I will carry 100% of the time and I do carry two speed loaders. One of the Glocks is close at hand most of the time also.
