Confederate Monument Contractor Suing City of Selma

Via Billy

The contractor for a construction project at a confederate memorial site in Selma is suing the city for close to a million dollars.

City Council President Cecil Williamson says the contractor is suing over a forced work stoppage at the site - and the suspension of their building permit without a hearing.

"The city made a representation that he could do the work, he invested time, money, energy, planning and now the city has stopped that without any compensation," said City Council President Cecil Williamson.
The project was supposed to make the Memorial to the Confederate Dead at Old Live Oak Cemetery wheel chair accessible - and make the monument to Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest more secure.
