This is the horrifying moment an armoured police vehicle was pushed off a bridge by protestors in Cairo today.
The van plunged off the 6th October Bridge before demonstrators attacked the wreckage. It is not known how many people were on board and how many people survived the fall, but bloodied men were seen lying around the van moments afterwards. Unconfirmed reports on Twitter claimed five were dead.
The dramatic pictures show the van being ambushed by dozens of people before crashing through a protective fence on the bridge. It then falls upside down and then rolls onto its roof as it lands. Blood can then be seen on the ground as nearby police officers pull injured men out of the crushed vehicle.

I doubt very much that the vehicle was pushed off the bridge.
ReplyDeleteParapets are stronger than that and the head flying off the lighting column indicates a fairly high speed was involved.
There is nobody nearby and I suspect the driver was reversing away from the crowd and tried to do a 3-point turn but was closer than he realised to the edge of the roadway.
I thought curious also as you would need quite a few strong men to push it and as you said, there were none near. Good observations.

ReplyDeleteWhat's so effing "horrifying" about it?
I gotta admit, I giggled as I read the story.
I think it's kinda cool. We should have more of that.
Them boys failed to go home at the end of their shift.
Ha.
Bulldozers are handy at times.

DeleteI'm having trouble keeping up with Egypt's "demonstrations". Were these pro Muslim Brotherhood protestors pushing a military vehicle off a bridge? If so, I'm on the military's side. I disagree with David Cameron's oppinion that Egypt needs more democracy, recent history makes me think much less democracy is what Egypt needs.
ReplyDeleteAlso, does anything happen anymore without professional photographers covering it? If something does happen without photogs, does it matter?
I'm with you, here, the lesser of the two evils is the military.
DeleteLooks like a Hummer... I wonder where they got that? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, probably from Iran........:)
