Ford hit a Grand Slam home run with its homage to the original supercar,
the legendary Le Mans winning GT40. Built in 2005 and 2006, the new GT
incorporates many new and unique technologies, including an aluminum
space-frame chassis with aluminum body panels and an
aluminum-over-carbon engine cover.
Using the same mid-engine
configuration as the original GT40, the GT is powered by a supercharged
5.4-liter V-8 thrusting 550 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque through
a specially built Ricardo 6-speed manual transaxle. The result is
astounding performance: the GT produces exhilarating zero-to-60 times of
3.7 seconds and a top speed of 205 MPH.
