House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Tuesday subpoenaed the computer former IRS supervisor Lois Lerner used and other electronic data regarding the agency's targeting of conservative groups.

The California Republican asked Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen for back-up tapes, external drives, hard drives, and other electronic files either sent or received by Lerner between Jan. 1, 2009, and Sept. 23, 2013.

Issa also is seeking the computer that Lerner herself used during that period in the subpoena.

"After a year of beating down efforts by the Obama administration and its allies to obstruct an investigation into targeting, the IRS now says it lost perhaps the most critical evidence," Darrell Issa, the California Republican who chairs the committee, said in a statement. "When Commissioner Koskinen testified before the committee in February, he made no mention of this.

That is as good an excuse as the IRS is giving and about as true. Lois Lerner the IRS executive that failed to produce emails about targeting conservative groups for special oversight. The reason given is there was a computer glitch and they were all lost. That excuse stretches reason to the breaking point on its own. Now the nation is ask to believe that somehow emails from six others have also been lost due to glitches. Really, that is the best you can come up with. With all the redundant back-up systems in place, they all happened to fail just in these instances. What is happening here goes far beyond what Nixon did and he was forced to resign. Using the IRS to attack political opponents must not be tolerated and if that means for the first time in American history a President goes to jail then so be it.

E-mails uncovered by the committee last week showed that, in preparation for her meeting with the Department of Justice, Lerner and one of her advisers transmitted 1.1 million pages of data on nonprofit groups, including confidential taxpayer information, to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, potentially in violation of federal law.

Nikole Flax emails show Flax giving the green light to Lerner’s request to meet with Department of Justice officials to explore the possibility of criminally prosecuting nonprofit groups. The meeting and exploring of criminal charges came at the suggestion of Democratic senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

  2. Time for a blast from the past; What did the president know, and when did he know it
I know it will never happen, but...Lying under oath before a Congressional committe ought to be offense punishable by death. Ms Lener has already lied to Congress, the bitch ought be shot at noon, the next day, Or better yet, shaved head, stripped naked, publicly hung, Sign reading: You lie, You die.
I have a good idea how this will play out, She will get a slap on the wrist, her low friends in high places will protect her. If sent to jail, she will be pardoned.
