The LePage administration is taking another step toward pushing welfare recipients to find jobs. The Department of Health and Human Services announced on Wednesday that, starting October first, "able bodied" adults with no dependents who get SNAP benefits -- often called food stamps -- will have to work 20 hours per week or do volunteer work. There are an estimated 12,000 recipients in Maine who meet that standard.

There is an idea give em an orange jump suit, a weed wacker and let the maintain the roads and parks. Come winter here up north give em a snow shovel and send the out to shovel snow for the elderly.

DeleteWe have a program here in mid WI. Its called emergency government. They take huber prisoners or people who are unemoloyed and have them rake leaves and shovel snow etc. The pay they recieve goes towards their fines. Works out well for the most part and I believe some men can change for the better through hard work.
