Taking a break in Jerusalem today from his attempt to broker a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, Secretary of State John Kerry visited with the parents of Max Steinberg, a 24-year-old Los Angeles native and IDF soldier who was killed in action in Gaza.

  1. You want peace in the Middle East. It is very simple quit holding peace talks and let them have a real war. WAR dirty, ugly, and messy with lots of deaths but it will settle the problem. Wars are won against civilians you do not make pinpoint strikes on a military target and win a war. You make the population suffer so badly peace at any price is the only answer. True peace is won only through extreme suffering.

The Middle East wars remind of an old “Star Trek” episode. Two planets had been at war for hundreds of years. But they had made war clean and sterile. Computer figured the attack and causalities the citizens marched into denigration cambers. None of the real ugliness that war must be. When Kirk stops the clear war peace brakes out because neither side wants the true horror of war.

For peace war must be so terrible even making friends with your enemy is preferred.

    1. Uh, the ponderous northern states already tried that approach during the Late Unpleasantness.........

    2. Knowing the Constitution Lincoln’s War was illegal. The Northern states had no legal right to invade the South. Not a historian but wasn’t part of the justification for the war a “false flag” event at Harper’s Ferry. Dirty tricks I guess are nothing new.

Back to my point even though illegal the war was so horrific peace with the enemy was preferred and that peace has lasted almost 150 years. I expect that peace to last forever. We may very soon again be at war with each other but it will not be North vs South. The next war will be Constitutionalists’ fighting Totalitarians’.

Same as Lincoln's War come to think of it.

  2. You know, you are 100% correct. I never looked at it in that context. Lincoln was not the person we learned about in history. But then Lincoln came from Illinois just like Obama. I wonder if that means something.

    1. :) When Obama took the train through Baltimore to DC, I knew what he was thinking. Unfortunately, the crowd wasn't as anti-Obama as it was anti-Lincoln previously :)
