Washington and Lee University to remove Confederate flags from Lee Chapel
Via Susan
Disgraceful.
Washington and Lee University will remove Confederate flags from its Lee Chapel after a group of black students led protests arguing that the Virginia school was unwelcoming to minorities.
President Kenneth P. Ruscio’s announcement Tuesday likely will
reverberate among many of the school’s students and alumni who revere
the Lexington university’s southern heritage.
I do not understand this drive to purge history. North or South, both sides lost thousands of patriots. I live close to the Rock Island Arsenal which was used as a Union prison during the Civil War. On the island is a large confederate cemetery. Those dead are honored the same as every other war veteran there.
Again my question why the purge of history? The Confederate Flags are every bit a part of American history.
Sorry Brock I do not mean to hijack your post.
On a side note if you ever come the Quad-City area you must see the Rock Island Arsenal Museum. The museum is an amazing display of small arms and weapons. Just a few things there to be seen.

And thousands of other item. Seriously if you like history and especially military history this is a must see. Some great food, some great people please come and enjoy Midwestern hospitality.
And benefactors should withold all funding until this injustice is corrected. I believe these students that felt "unwelcome" should attend a differant school if they dont like it. I feel it was more of an issue of forcing their will upon society.
And as a Yankee, even I am offended at this totally PC crapola - Since when do a few paid 'students' get to change history? I hope alumni donations fall to ZERO. Scheech..
I actually had Washington & Lee college as one of my choices to go to after I recently graduated because there is a lot of history there that is of interest to me. This was to be expected though recently many schools across the south are not only being forced to but wanting to get rid of their Confederate imagery all in the name of "progress". One example of this was Ole Miss, it has gone through a lot of changes since back in the day. I wonder what General Robert E. Lee would think of this mess.

DeleteCommies hard at work. Thanks for the invitation and do we get to shoot any......?:)
This is truly a sad moment.
ReplyDeleteHow do we reverse it?
If I were the Lee family, I would have the good General, Traveller and the other relatives removed along with everything possible to Beauvoir.
DeleteAnd benefactors should withold all funding until this injustice is corrected. I believe these students that felt "unwelcome" should attend a differant school if they dont like it. I feel it was more of an issue of forcing their will upon society.
DeleteSeems to me they should be protected by a state historic law that I assume they have, but if not, can't imagine why.
DeleteWhat!? Remind me to shoot those admins if I ever go through there on my way to DC. I'll make it quick. If they ain't already been hung.

ReplyDeleteAppalled at their ignorance, I imagine.
