Really. Of course, the father should have never let it go this far and his son has obviously been spoiled rotten by his family. If he wasn't in school, then he should have been given the option of getting a full time job or leaving.
Aside from the fact I am pretty sure the entire thing is staged I would be more ashamed of the so called parent's behavior than the teen's.
Over 50% unemployment for those below age 24. Young Men, especially White Boys can't even behave like young Men without being penalized for it by "society" but are expected to perform in some traditional sense while all the real opportunities are handed to Women and Minorities because "Traditional roles" are bad for everyone else.
Most of our young Men have no where else to turn for any sense of accomplishment and honestly it's us older Men who are responsible for sacrificing their future to get along in our past. I am not saying we all willingly went along with it but the Young Male video game addiction is a side effect of the world our society has created. I know some young Men who have made it, 99% of them became some form of mechanic actually, which is about the only area of advancement they have left. Those who don't have an aptitude for that are in dire straights.
I am sure that young Man will get over it eventually but it's highly likely the parent is going to need that child more than the Man he will become needs his parent in the future. I can remember a time when it wasn't all that uncommon for the parents to ease the employment road for their children as well.

If you want to work, you can find it. Only McDonald's? So what? Take it while looking for something better. My Vietnamese friend followed me to Tarboro in 2002 and wanted to buy a store, but took a job at McDonald's in the meantime to at least have some money coming in though he didn't need to do so. If I needed to work now, I'd jump in a taxi as there is always money to be made if you don't sit on your butt, but actively seek fares when it's slow. When nothing at all was happening, I'd cruise I-5 from San Clemente to Oceanside looking for breakdowns and charge $25 for water, changing a tire whatever and that was 25 years ago. Plenty of jobs in the oil fields, also.
2002 was a long time ago and if a guy tried looking for breakdowns to help and charging for them these days he would more than likely end up with some legal troubles and bills for his effort. Depending on your circumstances working at a McD's will almost cost you more than not working too.

Things are not like they were and I just think it's wrong to judge Young Men by our old standards. I know I am in a minority there but I expect that.
As for it being staged well my first tip were the cases laid out in both the room and outside. Some of them were duplicates and the way they were laid out was just silly if you were going to grab em and run over them. Not to mention the dad on the mower was waiting.
Yes there is plenty of opportunities out there for those that want to work and are willing to relocate... In my field they are always hiring but you better be able to bust ass and not complain....
Staged - guaranteed. My wager if that they'll try to make some money off of it on a ad-driven youtube channel or sell usage rights to it for those funny home video shows.

Awww, poor thing. Well, he needs to get off his ass and find something else. I could jump in a cab today in Jacksonville or Cape Carteret for that manner and support myself. Jacksonville, working nights would be preferable, because of the base. No tears from me, children.
