POLL: 39% of Young Americans Don't Want to Work

On Friday, the Washington Examiner reported that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a full 85.9 million Americans had said they did not want a job last month – 93 percent of all of those who had dropped out of labor force. The labor force participation rate in the United States is at a three-decade low thanks to President Obama’s job-killing economic measures. Pew Research Center found that 39 percent of 16-24 year olds didn’t want to work. That number had skyrocketed ten percent over the last 14 years. Among men, 28.5 percent said they didn’t want a job.

  2. As a small business owner I know how hard it is to find anybody that wants to work. Many young people seem to have a sense of entitlement, as if the world owes them something. Many people want a job but dont want to work. And if you tell them to leave the cell phones in the car you would think they are going through heroin withdrawls. The American work ethic I grew up with is gone. I dont know if they taught this in schools or what but the govt. Should be pleased that they will have a whole batch of welfare repients to be dependant upon them.

  4. Well hell, I don't want to work either, but there's this problem of having to eat, keep a roof over my head and maybe even have a toy or 10 ... But thats the difference between my generation and these kids today, I started working at 14, by the time I was 18 I had a full time job plus a part time job .. I've busted my butt all my life, and now I have to train kids that need to run to the bathroom to talk to mommy or their girlfriend every 20 minutes, its sickening ... Once my generation retires, these kids are doomed, none of them wanna learn.............

You aren't the first to mention this today. Of course, if they just got rid of welfare with all the beenies, they'd learn real quick or die of starvation.

    2. Once again, Brock, and I know I'm preaching to the choir, my wife and I have home schooled all 7 of our children and they have worked in some capacity all their lives in our family business. The 4 older ones have their own accounts now and the 3 younger ones are the next in line for their own as well. Homeschooling and self employment, nothing better for productive patriots!

  5. On the one hand, its aggravating to not be able to find employees who want to work, or have your own offspring with zero work ethic.... and on the other. Can you blame them?. They spend 13 yrs being told how special they are, getting trophies for showing up and have interventions for when conflict arises or they are bullied; then they graduate and are expected to be self sufficient and if you live in a libtard bluish purple state like we do, pay fed.state. soc sec. Med. Local. AND occupancy and LST taxes while being told by teachers and guidance counselors they need $100k in debt for secondary ed to get a job.

    1. Homeschool or attend one of the few private schools which aren't PC. Parents are failing their children.

  6. Oh and not allowed to cut lawns or do paperroutes or be outside without supervision while growing up is it any wonder they are perpetual children?

And the social media edevices are making a lot of us -- adults included --retarded. Its ok for sideline use but too many are using it as an excuse to exist but are barely living.
