ATF Director Confirms It’s Not Just About M855

ATF Director B. Todd Jones spoke in a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing today, and confirmed exactly what I said when the M855 party started: the ATF is not just concerned about M855, but all 5.56 ammunition.

In a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, ATF Director B. Todd Jones said all types of the 5.56 military-style ammo used by shooters pose a threat to police as more people buy the AR-15-style pistols.

“Any 5.56 round” is “a challenge for officer safety,” he said. Jones asked lawmakers to help in a review of a 1986 bill written to protect police from so-called “cop killer” rounds that largely exempted rifle ammo like the 5.56 because it has been used by target shooters, not criminals.

  1. We who shoot need to be hammering on legislators and judges nonstop....and recalling those who ignore us....on the 'sporting purposes' clause they are hiding behind. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with sports therefore banning ammo under that excuse violates the Constitution no less than banning guns themselves. If we accept the validity of the ridiculous 'sporting purposes' clause we have lost before then battle even begins. Write your congress critters and write EVERY JUDGE who stands before the electorate. They need to know with certainty that they will be opposed and replaced me or their acts in office. The power of recalling elected officials is the ONLY power that we have left short of force.

    1. Agreed, but we don't need the 2A as we have a Natural Right to this.

    2. Sadly our natural rights only seem to be written in blood that fades over time and must be reprinted now and again.

  4. Yeah - do that. Cite a law using 'omg the teflon bullets go through everything!' argument as the foundation of the bill. The argument which was later proven COMPLETELY MADE UP.

  7. But by that line of ILL-logic, ALL ammo, of any can what so ever is a "threat to officer safety" and thus ALL ammo ought/needs to be banned. But that is the long term goal of the anti gunners. Disarm the citizens/serfs as a means of controlling them.

Now let us all dutifully bow down and worship at the shrine of Officer Safety. Be thou the good hardworking, taxpaying, "Im proud to be an American" serf...er..citizen, and STFU and do what you are told to do. Your masters know what is best for you. (barf).

  8. Since when does our govt care about the lives of cops? Either the brownshirts are kicking in doors without cause and the govt does nothing to stop them. Or the cops get thrown under the bus when they have a legit shoot. (Holder and company vs Ferguson PD)

  9. Am I wrong to feel like we are being distracted right now. Perhaps this was a test of the waters. Maybe its just a ploy to drive up 556 ammo (and all ammo) prices and limit availability. Maybe just maybe, while Nero fidles in DC, he is standing atop the world laughing as we scurry about to pay 8x what ammo is worth.

  10. I am willing to bet my balls, and would not welch if wrong, that
the officers shot in Ferguson were hit by 5.56 rounds.
Without question, and respectfully, the shooter who did this
has talent and used a scoped rifle.
Those shots were not made by any of my "homies" with a pistol
    and on a whim.
    Think about it.
During the storm of back and forth regarding an attempted ban
of M855, a statistic constantly mentioned was that no police officer
has ever been shot with this ammo.
However, as of two nights ago, an impossibly convenient and perfectly
timed "coincidence" seems to have occurred.
    Really?
    I ain't buying it.
There is no such thing as a coincidence.

Hadn't thought of that, but haven't heard anything new from them yet which is strange.

  11. Power grab in progress, the rug riders in control are setting cops up to look inept, leaving the brotherhood to save the day. I've never been the biggest fan of the glock wielding doughnut dudes, but I'm rooting for local LE now. If they federalize parking tickets, its gonna get messy in a hurry.
