  1. Having worked at a maximum security prison in NY as a CO stationed at a guard tower the activity behind this reporter is not unusual. Believe it or not that is how the key to access the tower is passed between officers changing shifts. It is possible that was items or even a meal being delivered to the guard who cannot leave his post to open the access door of the tower.

    1. You're welcome. I always enjoy coming to your website. I especially like the many historical articles and essays you post about southern history as it pertains to the War between the States. As a New Yorker who has spent time in some southern states while backpacking the AT I have a fond appreciation of the southern culture and its people and hope one day to resettle in the south.

    2. Thank you and come down for a visit. Beach weather now and the Fall PATCON will be the first weekend in October when we have always had delightful weather.

  2. A chink in the wall that can be used for good purposes is still a chink. (not a racist comment). A guard bringing in his lunch like that is bypassing the security of the regular check-in procedures and can bring in drugs, drugs, cell phones, and "tools" to sell to the prisoners.

    1. Wrong. They are not " bypassing the security of the regular check-in procedures" all guard towers can only be access from outside the prison. Contraband cannot be brought in to a prison by way of the towers as there is no access to the interior of the prison from the towers at all. The officer who mans the towers enters the prison for a pre-shift briefing then exits the prison to go to his assigned tower post where the officer who is being relieved lowers the key to his relieving officer by rope/bucket. the relief officer enters the tower then locks the access door behind him then the officer leaving has to unlock the door to exit the tower and the key is then sent back up by the same method. And to you last point a tower officer never sees or comes in contact what so ever with an inmate to be able pull off what you mentioned. Please know your facts before posting such drivel.

  3. I had seen this previously but dismissed it as the guy knew the camera was
rolling and it was just what is done and has been going on. He did not hesitate
to do what they do. I worked as a nurse in a prison in Atlanta and no one went
out to their car for anything as the check points were endless. Not worth it.
Once your in, your in for the shift.
