The invasion of Normandy involved a wide variety of planes from heavy bombers that softened up German defenses through fighter that harried enemy troops on the ground to transport planes. DeleteAn interesting sidenote, most paratroopers that went to VN trained in C119's in jump school. It was the last of the radial engine aircraft and was used for cargo, paratroopers, and as a gunship in RVN. The flying coffins were also used the same way and started the gunship revolution which is now taken over by the C130 which still runs a turbine/prop engine. I loved the C130 but the C119 made you wonder if it would ever get off the ground...I swear it took a runway as long as B52's use in order to get airborne. indyjonesouthere
