A letter sent Wednesday to UNC system President Margaret Spellings and UNC Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt and their governing boards from lawyers Hampton Dellinger, Stacey Grigsby and Samuel Hall:

We write on behalf of UNC Chapel Hill students to request that you immediately remove the monument of an armed Confederate soldier, known as Silent Sam, from the middle of campus. Silent Sam should go for many reasons including its incompatibility with the “inclusive and welcoming environment” promised by UNC’s non-discrimination policy. We are providing legal notice of an additional reason why Silent Sam must come down now: the statue violates federal anti-discrimination laws by fostering a racially hostile learning environment.

As UNC’s Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office acknowledges, federal laws guarantee a series of rights to members of the UNC campus community. Among the applicable laws are Title IV and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which forbid racial discrimination at UNC as an institution of higher learning and a recipient of federal funds. Because Silent Sam violates the rights guaranteed by these and other federal laws, we request that you authorize its immediate removal in order to avoid needless litigation.

  1. The problem with equal opportunity is it denies opportunity to talented white people in order to give opportunity to incompetent people.

  2. There is only ONE course of action that UNC should take if it has any adult leadership, spine or balls:

To the lawyers, Dellinger, Grigsby and hall:
Regarding your request to remove the monument know as Silent Sam, under your threat of litigation here is our response-
What part of the word NO do you not understand? Those who object to the presence of that monument are fully welcomed and without any discrimination or hostility to leave and attend any other institution of their choice.

I am by nature one who seeks to avoid violence and hostile confrontation. However it seems to me, that the only way and the only means left to stop this legal harassment is to hunt those lawyers down and curb stomp their asses to a pulp, with the warning that if they cross your path again, in any fashion what so ever, their next trip will be not to the ER but to the morgue. These lawyers are nothing more than evil barbarians in suits.

Let us just bring dueling back. Problem solved.

  3. My guess in the university will cave. But I would like it explained to me, I’m a bit slow. How a statue discriminates? Does it make faces at certain races? Or perhaps is reflects the sun’s rays, only into the eyes of nonwhites. Maybe it sneaks into the admissions building, and shreds applications of particular ethnic groups. I am confused here, please help me understand, how the statue of Silent Sam, discriminates.

  4. A statue violates rights? In what sharia compliant institution did they get their law degree.
