On Bowe Bergdahl - Colonel Kurt Schlichter: "The military is more broken than I ever feared possible."

Via Ol' Remus

 A disgrace in uniform.
I'm absolutely stunned. It's an outrage and the military should be ashamed.
We have a Navy that can't sail its ships; we have a United States Army Military Academy that is graduating people who are openly communist and anti-American. And now a man who betrays his country, who deserts his men in the face of the enemy, who gets men killed and wounded, gets no jail time!
Our military is more broken than I ever feared possible. I'm stunned and disgusted.

  1. Don't forget an Air Force that can't follow procedure to update NICS to keep the crazies from being able to buy a gun.

  2. I don't see him as getting off Scott-free.

The Dishonorable Discharge brands him as a convicted felon, never able to possess a firearm, and denied all veteran's benefits, despite probably having on-going health and disability issues as a result of his years of torture and confinement.

Also, he can never again wear the uniform, and the decorations and insignia that he earned are now forfeited.

That's a lot of pride and self-worth down the toilet.

At the same time, Army Intelligence says he is a wealth of information and is being extremely helpful to them.

And, there is always the danger that he will be assassinated.

I didn't read that, but his punishment for desertion in a war time situation causing the death and injuries of fellow servicemen should have been tried as a
capital offense which would at least ended up with him serving time.

  3. As long as he is breathing oxygen he is getting off. He betrayed his country, broke his oath of enlistment, betrayed his fellow soldiers. Good men are now dead because of his desertion. He should have been placed in front of a firing squad. Desertion traditionally has been a death penalty offense. Should that disgusting traitorous POS ever get assassinated, I damn sure will celebrate the occasion. I wore the uniform for over 20 years (active duty and reserve). Remember too, he was not drafted, he enlisted of his own free will. Again: Good troops died because he deserted. Parents are now without theirs sons. Siblings are now without their brother. Wives are now widows. Children will now grow up without their dad. Girlfriends are now without their boyfriend to love them. Zero sympathy on the part of this vet. That deserter is a domestic enemy.
