Truman and Treason?

Most people believe the novel 1984 by George Orwell was about some futuristic dystopia. Published in 1949, the story reflected the fear of what the world could be like under totalitarian government. The main character in the story, Winston Smith, works in the Records Department of the “Ministry of Truth” as a reviser of historic records. Thought police, misleading language, heavy surveillance, and outright deception are used to make sure everyone is conforming to the state.

While one could argue that the United States has been headed toward such a society for some time, the true arrival of totalitarian government in this country occurred under Harry S. Truman, after the election of 1948.

  1. Truman was heavily controlled. There was an assassination attempt
of Truman by the Stern gang at one time. The bombing of the
defeated Japan, was that his idea and his alone?
He was the last president we had who had only a high school diploma. All presidents who followed him have been college graduates. Part of the reason, I believe, is that high school graduates during his time reflected more educational substance than today’s modern “wud up?” type of high school graduate.
Nowadays, it's all about the credentials, baby.
I think I'll pick a high school graduate if available as they are
more astute and realistic; one from a small Southern town,
willing to defend their domain from attack.

      Which means zilch today.

    2. "Zilch" indeed. Memos were written on the subject by the best brains in the State Department. But none of them got through to Truman. Basically, they told him what they wanted him
to know. I'm sure when he saw and heard about destruction
in Japan he was devastated and knew he had been played.
I've read the Russia theory many times. Thanks.

    3. Certainly and thank you. Truman was a member of the SCV, if case you didn't know.

    4. The dropping of the Atomic bombs on Japan was horrific.
I researched the Japan Holocaust. Bodies lying on the ground
had been turned into nothing but a shadow. Hard to imagine.
I wonder if the targeted peoples felt anything when they
      just disentigrated into nothing.
No, I did not know Truman was a member of SCV. Thanks again.

I don't know but they may have felt less than the victims of the firebombing of Dresdan.

    6. Yes, I am sure you are correct. I remember the little
children running thru the streets, their shoes melting,
their feet dissolving and then collapse. Prolonged
      agonizing suffering.

  2. I've read or seen a quote by him, Truman, that he regretted agreeing to form the CIA out of its precursor, the OSS. It was this secretive group which, IMO, had Gen Patton assassinated in post WWII Germany because of his stated intention to, not retire, but resign his commission and tell the American people the treachery and sellout to the Communists that was allowed in Europe. --Ron W
