Most Democrats say eliminating the electoral college would improve democracy in the U.S., while more Republicans say term limits for Congress would bring improvement, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

Among Democrats, 81% said electing a president by who received the most votes nationally would in some way improve democracy, as opposed to through the current electoral college system. That compared with 52% of independents and 32% of Republicans. In both the 2000 and 2016 presidential election, Democratic candidates won the popular vote but lost the electoral college.

  1. This would do exactly what the communist party wants done. Invalidate all further national elections. As I have said so many times before. The people running this nation WANT civil war.---Ray

    4. Re wanting civil war. That's ridiculous. The people in power want to stay there. Their motives are entirely selfish, not some mindless loyalty to global communism. In a civil war, the outsiders have a chance to overturn the power structure. People already in power would never risk it.

      I'm not sure of that.

  2. "Democracy is indispensible to socialism." --Lenin

"The goal of socialism is communism." --Lenin

Our nation's founders were learned historians and they disdained democracy in favor of a Constitutional Republic which would constrain the democratic process to the election of the House of Representatives. The Constitution mandates "a republican form of government" (Article IV, Section 4) , a major part of which is that the President is elected by the States with propotional representation according to their House members and two Senators. A strictly democratic election would disempower the voters of most States and favor the major population centers and further diminish the power of the States centralizing even more power in fewer hands--a very bad idea indeed from a study of history. --Ron W

  3. It's just more bread and circuses. In this case, Democrats are trying to rewicker the last election to their favor. There is no rational or moral benefit to using one system over another. The way we do it now is as arbitrary as a pure popular vote.

    1. We don't have either one. We are supposed to be a Republic.

    2. And Article IV, Section 4, demands that the United States SHALL guarantee a republican form of government to every State in this Union...", that is a Republic. Those trying to dismantle that are seditionists. --Ron W

    3. There is nothing about the form of presidential elections that enforces or dismisses the Republican nature of the nation. You can have a popularly elected president of a republic just as you can popularly elect senators and congressmen.

    4. In the broadest sense, a republic simply means "not a monarchy" or a modern equivalent. The people governed have a say in the government. A republic can be democratic.

  4. Anything that "improves" democracy, i.e., makes it stronger, I want to stamp out quickly. Any hint of democracy must be crushed on sight. Democracy is mob rule, pure and simple. I want a representative republic, nothing less.
