The Statue of Liberty is Falling to Pieces, and I’m Glad

I don’t like the thing. I hate what it stands for, and I respect the givers even less than I respect the gift. Most of the problems we face today can be traced to the Statue of Liberty. If we’d just send it back to the French, crime in the streets would disappear, we’d have a surplus in the federal treasury, and teenage pregnancies would be a thing of the past.

But instead of behaving in a sensible fashion we’re going to replace the torch and reinforce the joints and stress points. After we’ve finished the job the strengthened structure will probably last another hundred years. By then, however, the survivors of our civilization will be living under bridges like trolls, clubbing everybody who wants to cross the river, free at last, free at last.

  1. Fix it with private money or not at all. Just like Southern monuments.

  2. The article was written in 1984. The Statue of Liberty was repaired a long time ago.

The statue symbolizes what America was meant to be. It welcomed thousands of immigrants to Ellis Island. Immigrants who arrived legally instead of sneaking into the country; immigrants who wanted a better life; immigrants who were willing to work; immigrants who assimilated the American culture; immigrants who went on to defend our country in WW1 and WW2. Give me more of that, not less.

Yes as annotated."This article was originally published in the 1984 Summer issue of Southern Partisan magazine."

  4. The Statue of Liberty represents Libertas, the Roman Goddess. As a Christian I am troubled that this country uses such a graven image rather than giving glory to the actual author of liberty, Almighty God.

Next, and in case some did not realize this, the infamous plaque was added many years AFTER it was erected. It was NEVER intended to be utilized as a call to dump third world immigrants on our shores. The call was to liberty itself not the states.

    Y'all have a nice day.
