Jonathan was brought to Saint Helena from the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean in 1882, along with three other tortoises at about 50 years of age. He was named in the 1930s by Governor of Saint Helena Sir Spencer Davis. He continues to live on the grounds of Plantation House, the official residence of the governor, and is cared for by the government of Saint Helena.
Hi Brock!!, Over at the "Bass Pro Shop" in Denham Springs, La., when you go to the back of the bottom floor there is a BIG aquarium and next to it a small pond with a foot bridge across it .. in the pond lives many fish, a couple of them being large "Gar fish!!" some ducks and "FRED!!" an old "Snapping turtle" ..(his shell is about 3 feet across!!" he is estimated to be at least a hundred years old!! BTW He is the "SWEETHEART" of the LSU VETRANERY SCHOOL!!!!!.. they look after him!!!.. I will email you some pix of him!!!!!! skybill
