Concerning the Dream Act Amnesty vote, there may be a big problem in Maine. Calls from Americans are being outpaced by calls from illegal alien supporters in the offices of US Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe.

Collins and Snowe are not releasing their positions on the Dream Amnesty and the illegal alien supporters have their hopes pinned on Collins and Snowe joining the Dems to pass the cloture vote on the bill.

Yes, we really do need more phone calls before Thanksgiving. See the list below of the Senators who most need to hear from you because their votes are still up for grabs. HERE'S OUR SENATE WHIP COUNT OF DREAM AMNESTY VOTE SEE SENATORS WHO MOST NEED PHONE CALLS TODAY Your outpouring of phone calls and faxes these past 12 days has pushed the expected NO votes to the point that we think if the vote were held today that we'd have the 41 votes needed to kill DREAM with a fillibuster. Hooray for you! But the opposition is changing the bill by softening some of its most egregious aspects. You have done such a good job of pointing out loopholes that the amnesty sponsors have introduced new versions of DREAM that: reduce the maximum age from 35 to 30 eliminate the section rewarding illegal aliens with in-state tuition Even these two concessions don't go far enough, and there are many more problems with the bill besides those two. But we don't yet know how many of the Senators who currently are whipped as being NO votes -- as well as "Unannounced" Senators -- might switch to YES if the DREAM sponsors keep narrowing the amnesty. The other side is using its vast war chest of funds to pay for special phoning campaigns pushing YES votes. We desperately need your phone calls today. Thanks. (Remember that the Senators are back home this week, so make the phone calls to their staffers back in the home state offices.) To get talking points for your own Senators and to report what you hear back to us, be sure to go to your NumbersUSA Action Board and look at your Phone Action Notes. ACTION 1 -- 'Undecideds' are the priority We need at least 4 of these 14 to vote NO. (The amnesty folks have a steeper hill to climb and need 11 of the 14 to vote YES.) But because there are a few wish-washy Senators among our NO list, we should aim to get at least 6 of these Undecideds. Please help. Although many of these seem like they are leaning NO or ought to be a NO vote, there has to be a reason why they have chosen to remain publicly Undecided. The reason is unlikely to be a good one. Did her scare in almost losing her seat make her a little more attentive on this kind of thing? Thank you for contacting me regarding the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. I greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on this important issue.

The DREAM Act (S. 729) was introduced on March 26, 2009 and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Similar bills have been introduced during previous Congresses, but never garnered enough support to pass.

The DREAM Act would provide illegal immigrants who are students with a path to citizenship. Under the DREAM Act, these students could receive conditional permanent residency if they meet certain criteria, including: entering the United States before age 16; living in the United States for at least five continuous years immediately before the bill becomes effective; graduating from high school or gaining admission into an institute of higher education; having "good moral character;" and being younger than 35 when the bill becomes effective. Students must also demonstrate that they are not inadmissible to the country and are not under final order for deportation or removal. After a six year period of conditional permanent residency, these individuals could then apply for citizenship if they continued to demonstrate "good moral character," continued to live in the United States, and completed at least two years of higher education or served at least two years in the military.

Like you, I oppose the DREAM Act and amnesty. While I am open to considering some of the provisions of the DREAM Act in the context of comprehensive immigration reform, I do not support this bill as a stand-alone measure. I strongly believe that the United States must take the necessary steps to fix the way we handle illegal immigration, and I am committed to achieving practical, bipartisan, comprehensive reform that will protect taxpayers and address the problem of illegal immigration at its core. We must strengthen our borders, crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers, and shut down the underground economy. With our economy in peril, it is more important than ever to ensure that we are protecting the jobs, wages and working conditions of American workers.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced that he will offer the DREAM Act amnesty bill (S.729) as an amendment to the Department of Defense Authorization Bill. Action on this bill is expected as early as next week!

Key points to stress:

No. 1: The rhetoric for DREAM ACT is false and misleading. This amnesty is NOT limited to high school valedictorians and other high-achieving college students who were brought to the U.S. illegally when they were toddlers.

The amnesty includes illegal aliens up to age 35!

And their arrival can be as late as age 15!

The bill is a giant fraud loophole. People can claim the amnesty without providing proof of meeting criteria.

Even the supporters of the DREAM ACT amnesty admit that around 2.1 million people could qualify.

No. 2: DREAM ACT does nothing to stop the behavior that put teenagers into their situation. It leaves the jobs magnet in place.

This amnesty has no enforcement measures at all. It allows employers to continue to hire illegal aliens, enticing millions more parents to bring their children here illegally and stay long enough for them to become high school students and demand another amnesty in a few years.

No. 3: DREAM ACT leaves intact the chain migration system that will allow these 2.1 million illegal aliens to eventually send for millions more relatives.

Rather quickly, the amnestied illegal aliens would be able to get green cards for their parents. And millions of additional relatives would be able to start planning their applications and getting in line. This starts with adult siblings and moves on to aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

A large percentage of the illegal aliens in the U.S. today are extended family members of the illegal aliens who got amnesty in 1986 and also those in the six more-limited amnesties in the 1990s.
