Sons Of Confederate Veterans Camp Is Starting In Mebane

"A group in Mebane wants to honor its Southern heritage by creating a Sons of Confederate Veterans camp.

There are camps in Burlington, Chapel Hill and Greensboro, but Carl Singley says enough folks are traveling from Mebane to those meetings that it’s time the city had its own chapter."

The year 2011 will mark the 150th anniversary of the War for Southern Independence ; and the Sons of Confederate Veterans encourage you to celebrate this noble time in our history when men and women of the South stood courageously for liberty, even in the face of insurmountable odds.

Not a "civil war" fought to take over the united States, as it is called in history books today, this was a war in which Southerners fought to defend their homes and families against an aggressive invasion by federal troops. The South peacefully seceded, just like our Founding Fathers did in 1776 with England ; and all we wanted was to be left alone to govern ourselves. But the north and Abraham Lincoln would not allow the South to peacefully leave because of the taxes and tariffs the South paid.

So the South fought for her liberty... and fought valiantly. Men like Jackson, Forrest and Lee. Outnumbered in some battles 5 to 1.

Don't let others do your thinking for you. Don't allow them to rob you of your heritage while they celebrate their own. Be proud of your Southern history and heritage.

Children's Legacy Committee - Our Future

Cassie Rentz (chair), Gabby Simons, & Huston Creel whom attended the Sam Davis Youth Camp last July were interviewed yesterday by a cable television show in Jackson County.

It was truly inspiring to listen to them and what they had taken to heart about camp as they interacted with the host, Mr. Royce Ragan. They spoke about the Sam Davis Youth Camp and their experience there. They also went into detail about what they learned and what they enjoyed most about camp. The children expressed how they enjoyed the dances they had learned.

They also told Mr. Ragan about the 1860’s dance lessons that they had conducted that past Saturday in Marianna, FL. In preparation of the upcoming Military Ball that will be held for Marianna Days, the Children's Legacy Committee conducted an 1860’s dance lesson for the citizens of Jackson County which was a huge success.

These young ladies and gentlemen are our future and we need to continue to support and encourage them. What a wonderful job they are doing in our community!

Confederate Heritage Youth Day

My dear Compatriots:

I would like to invite all campers and counsellors to our upcoming sixth annual Confederate Heritage Youth Day. The big event will be held in Western York County, SC, CSA, at Rick’s Fun Field (located at 615 Woodland Park Road in Smyrna, SC 29743) on Saturday, 9-25-2010. But campers are welcome to come Friday, 9-24-10. All campers will be enjoy a nice, Southern breakfast that Saturday, and a free dinner will follow for all participants.

Confederate Heritage Youth Day is held outside with a variety of interesting historians and instructors, all of whom are well educated in the true history of the South and our immortal Southern Cause. Living history programmes will also be demonstrated, such as those involving infantry, artillery and cavalry, to give you the bona fide flavour of our nation during the War for Southern Independence.

It is a wonderful day of learning about our noble heritage and history. I encourage you to attend if possible. It will be splendid to have a reunion with the counsellors and campers.

Dear Madam President Cheryl Smith of the Watauga Historical Association,

This letter is written in response to the disturbing email I received below. I am HK Edgerton, President of Southern Heritage 411, and Chairman of the Board of Advisors Emeritus of the Southern Legal Resource Center. Several weeks ago, I received a request to speak at your August 5, 2010 monthly meeting. I entered into a verbal contract to do so with Mr. Bill Hicks, your Interim Program Chair.

In entering that contractual obligation, I agreed to waive a major portion of my set Honorarium fee of $500.00 and appear for the sum of $75.00, a fee that Mr. Hicks relayed that your organization could only afford to cover the cost of my travel from Asheville, N.C. , and the speakers fee. And I might add that I turned down other engagements that would have covered the entirety of my fees to include travel, accommodations, and meals , because of not only my camaraderie to Mr. Hicks, but for the love that I carry for the people of the region that you serve.

I have been given no reason for why your organization decided to cancel my engagement, other than that related below by Mr. Hicks. I have turned this matter over to my attorney for advisement on any punitive or civil damages that I might have incurred .

I would greatly appreciate some explanation before moving forward.

Friends,

I am sending this mailing to anyone who should or must be informed by the decision made by the President of the Watauga Historical Association yesterday in my firing as Interim Program Chairman. The following named individuals are no longer scheduled.....Mr. H.K. Edgerton---Ms. Christine Tipton---and Mr.John Van Arsdall.

In my opinion, my removal was a political ploy for my standing up for Southern Heritage. My replacement, the former Program Chairman is not physically able to perform....the "powers that be" wanted me out of the way....and they have succeeded. I was never informed I was being replaced until I announced Mr. H.K. Edgerton's presence at our August meeting. [I also find the timing peculiar since Mr. Edgerton is a Black American]. I harbor no ill will toward this group....just pity them for their ignorance and insensitivity.

I apologize for this. I must now make phone calls to those who do not have email. Please notify anyone you might have invited. Write or call me if you have any questions. Brother H.K., I am trying to find a place for you to speak, if you will accept. If anyone can help out here, please let me know.
