Sons of Confederate Veterans, Commander-in-Chief, Michael Givens is scheduled to appear “live” on the MSNBC Hardball show with Chris Matthews today, Wednesday 8 December 2010. TIME: 5:00 p.m. and again later (assume taped) 7:00p.m.

Those of you who are familiar with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews know that he is “brutal” with opposing viewpoints on his program and will, no doubt, do his best to trip, frustrate and test the patience and knowledge of Commander Givens. In short, Matthews doesn’t soft shoe anything and will make a full frontal attack on Commander Givens and the SCV with claims of slavery, racism and the like…..we are confident that CiC Givens will demonstrate the best of courage and honor and will represent, with pride and dignity, the SCV and the memory of our Confederate forebears.

The purpose of this email is to inform you first, of the program schedule should you wish to view and second, to ask that you offer the following prayer at some point during the day or some version of it on behalf of Commander Givens and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The world is watching us again on the eve of this sesquicentennial of the Cause for Southern Independence; let us unite our hearts together in “One Voice” to the God of Heaven, asking for Grace and Strength in this coming hour.

We thank Thee for its pure record of virtue, valor and sacrifice: and for inspiring reflection that despite its bitter disappointments and sorrows, it proclaims for us, to all the world, that we came through its years of trial and struggle with our battered shields pure, our character as a patriotic and courageous people untarnished and nothing to regret in our defense of the rights and honor of our Southland.

Give us grace, our Heavenly Father, faithfully to accept Thy will concerning us, and make us all to glorify Thee in a sincere obedience to Thy holy commandments through the merits and mediation of They Son, our only Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen.

SOUTHERN HERITAGE CALL TO ACTION! HISTORY CHANNEL DISCRIMINATION Friends & Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, As many of you have already heard by now, the 60-second history segments commemorating the Sesqicentennial of the War which have been produced for the Georgia Division of the SCV have been pulled from the air by the History Channel in Georgia. This decision was made by Nancy R. Alpert, one of the many vice-presidents at A&E Television Networks, the parent company of the History Channel. You can read her reasons in the press release sent out by the Georgia Division HERE. The Georgia Division is still running the segments on three other national network channels in Georgia, in addition to the other radio and television stations involved in the statewide campaign, as part of the commemoration of the Sesquicentennial. None of the other networks or stations have expressed any concern at all, and many have commented on the quality of content and presentation of the segments. Many of the 60-second segments may be viewed on the Georgia Division website at www.GeorgiaSCV.org. Since our press release was sent out several days ago, we have been inundated by members and friends of the SCV who are interested in taking action. As we have seen in other instances, if we allow this anti-Southern discrimination to go unchecked without response, it will only encourage others to do the same. What we need you to do: 1. PRESS RELEASE (ATLANTA - November 29, 2010) The nationally syndicated cable television History Channel has made the controversial decision to force cable television companies, including Comcast and Charter, to pull ads paid for by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Georgia commemorating the Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary) of the War Between the States. The series of twelve television commercials by the Sons of Confederate Veterans is part of a statewide radio and television campaign aimed at commemorating the anniversary of the late War Between the States and educating the public on Georgia's important role and the historical causes of the War. All twelve television commercials, as well as a companion series of radio commercials, are still broadcasting across the state of Georgia; and an entire slate of additional commercials are already in production for 2011. The commercials came under scrutiny of the History Channel when a little-known liberal Internet site began attacking the Sons of Confederate Veterans for commemorating the War and, subsequently, also the History Channel for allowing the commercials to broadcast in their programming. Vice-president Nancy Alpert of A&E Television, the parent company of the History Channel, gave the following explanation of her decision to ban the historical ads: "The subject matter of each of the SCV ads, plus the actual language... is well beyond our guidelines for any advertising on AETN." Alpert cited her opinion that the ads violated History Channel guidelines by quoting, among other things, a statement in one commercial that the war was "Not a 'civil war' fought to take over the United States, as it is called in history books today, this was a war... against an aggressive invasion by federal troops." She also complained that one of the commercials related to the causes of the War stated that the South seceded in part because "Northern congressmen were able to vote themselves virtually anything they wanted, using Southern tax money, while the South was powerless to stop it." The commercials clearly offer a different point of view than that which is usually presented by documentaries on the History Channel; yet the channel has purported in the past to be an outlet which offers competing, and even controversial, opinions about historical events. Speaking on behalf of the Georgia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans which paid for the commercials to run, Division Commander Jack Bridwell had this to say, "We find it more than interesting that the History Channel has no problem airing shows with controversial theories about history, including more than one show which speculates that extraterrestrial aliens in UFO's somehow redirected human history, and yet the same channel does not see the value in allowing a non-profit, educational organisation to present the Southern view of the causes for the War." As the organization founded in 1896 and directly descended from the original United Confederate Veterans, the Sons of Confederate Veterans is charged in their initial charter with teaching the historical reasons for the South's heroic stand against overwhelming odds in the War. The charge given at the organization's founding states, "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought; To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, and the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish." With the Sons of Confederate Veterans representing more than 100,000 Southerners across the country, the Georgia Division of the SCV announced today that it is launching a campaign to educate the general American public about the censorship and hypocrisy of the A&E Network and particularly the History Channel. It is estimated that the A&E Network stands to lose several hundred thousand dollars over the course of the next two quarters as their advertisers are barraged by former viewers who are unhappy with this pandering to "political correctness," particularly across the South. Morehead City NC Veteran's Day Parade

Compatriots,

I received a call from the Veteran's Office yesterday morning concerning our position number at the parade on Saturday, the 6th. Position on Evans between 15th and 16th Streets. Number 87.

Parade begins at 1100 hours. Hopefully a Confederate Color Guard up front, any other SCV in uniforms immediately behind. Civilian attired Compatriots and family members after. One pickup truck with musicians in back last. Color Guard: At least two riflemen on ends with at least one CS National Flag and a NC Republic Flag in between riflemen. As many flags as possible, including a US Flag (Betsy Ross, if possible) being highest, and SCV Camp Flags among the SCV people behind the CS Color Guard. Keep a space between CS Color Guard and SCV Camp people. Truck with music will take the rear. Kenny unable to march, therefore, he and Worth will make CS Music.

Wirz Memorial Set For Sunday, November 7th

Do young people know the truth about Henry Wirz?

The 35th annual Captain Henry Wirz Memorial Service (a tradition started by the Alexander H. Stephens Camp 78 Sons of Confederate Veterans and Americus Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1976) will take place on Sunday afternoon, November 7th at 3 PM in the town of Andersonville, Georgia.

The guest speaker for the event will be Dr. Richard Rhone from Tuscaloosa, Alabama who is the Lieutenant Commander General of the Military Order of Stars and Bars. John Carroll will lead those assembled in the singing of “Dixie” and Andersonville Mayor Marvin Buagh will bring welcome.

Captain Henry Wirz was born, Hartman Heinrich Wirz in November 1823, in Zurich, Switzerland where his father, Abraham Wirz was highly respected.

At the outbreak of the War Between the States, Wirz enlisted in the Fourth Louisiana infantry on June 16, 1861. He was promoted to sergeant a year later and was wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines. He never recovered from the injury to his left wrist and it caused him great pain for the rest of his life.

Wirz was promoted to Captain on June 12, 1862 and was first detailed to General John Winder where he was given command of a Confederate military prison in Richmond, Virginia.

After serving a year as special emissary to President Jefferson Davis in Paris and Berlin, on March 27, 1864, he was installed as commandant of Andersonville Prison at Fort Sumter in Georgia. Wirz did the best he could do with many Union prisoners and very little food and medicine. It is written that the guards got the same food and medicine as the prisoners.

The Confederacy sent a distress message to Union President Abraham Lincoln and Union General Ulysses S. Grant. The South pleaded for an exchange of Confederate and Union prisoners. Lincoln and Grant, however, refused believing the Union prisoners might go home but the Confederate prisoners might go back to fight another day.

Captain Henry Wirz was unfairly charged of war crimes and even though witnesses for the defense could testify, his fate was already decided. Among those who knew of Wirz’s innocence was a Union soldier who was a prisoner at Andersonville.

Wirz was executed in Washington, D.C. on November 10, 1865.

The Confederate Reenactors and Honor Guard of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 78 (Muckalee Guards) will perform the closing ceremony at the monument to Wirz in Andersonville placed there by the United Daughters of the Confederacy (Georgia Division).

Sixth Annual Confederate Heritage Youth Day

The sixth annual Confederate Heritage Youth Day will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Rick's Fun Farm, 615 Woodland Park Road, Smyrna. The event is sponsored by several local camps of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and is free and open to the public. Presentations regarding the history of the War for Southern Independence will be discussed. The event will include demonstrations of calvary, infantry and artillery of the CSA.
