On 25 June 1876 Lt. Col. George Custer and his 7th Cavalry, invading Sioux territory, were caught & annihilated by the defending Sioux at the Battle of Little Big Horn. How you view this outcome depends on whether you are (1) a Sioux, (2) a Southerner, or (3) a Custer fan, which presupposes a vast ignorance of the subject.
Well, having been raised in my formative years by my Shoshone (who were traditional enemies of the Lakota) stepdad, I have always leaned toward the Lakota. It has been my opionion from quite a young age that Custer was nothing more than a glory seeking blowhard who wanted power and riches, not caring who he had to knife in the back to accomplish his goals.
