Amtrak: Hamburgers go for $9.75, but cost tax payers $16


Most Americans know that the budget deficit stems from reckless spending, but they remain unaware of the wasteful nature of the so called “investments.” For instance, the feds spent $85 million last year and—and $834 million over 10 years—just to subsidize snacks on the government rail system, Amtrak.

  1. Shucks - even little Suzy with her lemonade stand (provided the local bureaucrats didn't shut her down for not having a city permit) knows that you can't make any money that way.............oh wait - where is that $6.25 going anyway?

    1. We took a family compartment from the west to east coast in 2002 and it was absolutely horrible unlike the silverware, linens, with excellent service and food I remember as a child. Pathetic. They were behind schedule, so went faster than normal around curves which woke you up at night. The service was poor and one morning they had run out of bacon. One of the employees told me he was worried about his job because of these.
