A 16-foot long Great White Shark's tracking beacon shows the fish made a visit to Eastern Carolina's Pamlico Sound Monday afternoon. The shark's beacon pinged right off the shore of Ocracoke Island. The shark crossed through the Ocracoke Inlet Monday afternoon and then left by the same route Monday evening.Click here to go to WCTI-TV for more, including pictures.
The OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker showed Monday afternoon that "Mary Lee" was off the northwest part of Ocracoke Island. "Mary Lee" is described as a 16-foot long mature female Great White Shark weighing 3,456 pounds. She was tagged on September 17, 2012.
Later Monday evening, "Mary Lee's" tracking device pinged once again, showing the great white was out of the Pamlico Sound and heading north toward Cape Hatteras. Tuesday afternoon, her location remained off the shores of the Outer Banks.
"Mary Lee" was tracked up the coast of North Carolina over the weekend, passing off of Emerald Isle in the early morning hours of Sunday and passing off Beaufort Sunday afternoon.
