 Language discrepancies naturally arise in different geographic regions, like the raging “pop” vs. “soda” debate.

But the South undoubtedly takes the cake.

Conversations south of the Mason-Dixon line will befuddle anyone not born there.

We chose 15 of the most ridiculous (to a Yankee) Southern sayings — and tried to explain them.

  1. My dad, a Mississippian, had a couple I haven't heard elsewhere: "He's got a stumpful of Granddaddies" (said of a man with a bushy beard) "He ran like a n*gger at election" (said of someone running fast, usually in a football game).

  3. These are great ole sayings. Some I haven't hear in a long time. Good to see that they are being preserved??
    THere is a cool book out for download that has a bunch of older sayings from rural southern high school kids in the 1940s.
    They are signing each others high school class autgraph book- what we used to do in our yearbooks. The have some really cute,
    funny, and romantic stuff in there CHeck it out at Thygoran autograph book.
