Alabama is known as the "Yellowhammer State", and the Yellowhammer is
the official state bird. During the "War of Northern Aggression",
Alabama soldiers were known as "Yellowhammers", probably more commonly
pronounced, "Yallerhammers." One version of the story behind this as as
