Presenting the new Sainsbury’s Christmas advert. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion. Inspired by real events from 100 years ago.
This year’s Christmas ad from Sainsbury’s – Christmas is for sharing. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts – and even playing football together.
The chocolate bar featured in the ad is on sale now at Sainsbury’s. All profits (50p per bar) will go to The Royal British Legion and will benefit our armed forces and their families, past and present.

I remember the story of the Christmas truce in WW I, and I watched a movie sometime back based on the actual event. I found it quite moving. If memory serves me well, some Brit big shot decided that the truce was bad for English morale, or something to that effect.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I remembered it wrong. Anyway seeing the video reminded me that I have one of those German WW I greatcoats tucked away upstairs. It is one of only 3 pieces I have from WW I, nothing in comparison to my WWII collection, but nice to hold in trust a piece of history none the less. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks and I hope you've got plenty of moth balls with it. :)
DeleteOutstanding! CH
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed.
DeleteThe above is based on the 2005 French film; Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas). The film is subtitled. I highly recommend it. When it comes to the double dealings of our PTB, and politicians nothing has changed at all. They are all scum of the earth vermin. Thanks for the above post. I'm going to have see if I can buy a copy, and make it a tradition to watch at Christmas time.

DeleteGood idea.
So heart warming. Christmas is universal.
ReplyDeleteCertainly is.
