A former U.S. Army Ranger sniper and author of a best-selling book about his combat tour in Afghanistan said yesterday that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should be executed if found guilty of deserting his unit in 2009.
“I think he should definitely be put to death,” said Nicholas “Irv” Irving, the author (with Gray Brozek) of The Reaper: Autobiography of One of the Deadliest Special Ops Snipers, said on this writer’s radio show. “He’s given a lot of information to the enemy and he should pay the price.”
Since being released last year, Bergdahl has received two promotions and about $300,000 in back pay. He currently has a desk job at an Army base in Texas.
“They called him an honorable soldier,” Irving said. “No, I don’t agree with that.”

When I served (early 60s) desertion meant firing squad. But like the US Constitution the UCMJ has been ignored.

Same here, but 1966 on.
DeleteIf we had a real Army with officers who were more than career self-serving ass kissers. that POS would have been tried for desertion and faced a firing squad as an example to others. Yes, liberal wimps, militaries in the past world wide have made soldiers pay with their lives for desertion (depending on circumstances). It is taken that seriously. And, other soldiers lost their lives trying to find that POS.
ReplyDeleteother soldiers lost their lives trying to find that POS.
DeleteAgreed and if for no other reason than the one above.
Promoted by the military/political corruptocrats. Face down in the gutter and still descending.
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteHang 'em high.
ReplyDeleteJust think how the relatives of those who were killed searching for him feel.
DeleteHe knew where the surveillance cameras were outside the base camp and was
ReplyDeleteseen attempting to avoid the cameras. Sitting at a desk; I thought he was rotting
in a military prison. Men killed for a cockroach.
Men killed for a cockroach.
DeleteInfuriating.
Hang him high!

Fat chance, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteAll ongoing missions were canceled to look for that POS when he went over the hill. Good soldiers died looking for him. Many other were injured.
ReplyDeleteI was in Afghanistan in 2009 and everybody knew the details of Bergdahl and his "walk-a-bout". He turned his back on his team, the Army, and his country. The maximum punishment for desertion during "time of war" is death. I have no problems with that.

DeleteI would expect such if in the same position.
The military men might have to frag the cockroach themselves.
DeleteI'll guess that the Army and Obama are fighting over what they want to do.
