New legislation for welfare recipients in one state is sure to have some who abuse the system fighting mad because they might actually have to get out and work a little for their benefits — or lose them altogether.
Some of the largest counties North Carolina that have been exempt from federal legislation that required able-bodied adults without children work or volunteer at least 20 hours a week in order to be eligible for benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are losing that exemption, according to WRAL.
Beginning Jan. 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture ended that exemption based on 23 counties in the state showing recovering unemployment rates. Other counties with lower rates will remain on waivers for now.

ReplyDeleteAnd who knows, maybe some of them, once they get off their duff and put some effort into their situation, will learn a thing or two and enjoy the fruit of their effort.

DeleteGood point and some will, I am sure.
It won't matter. Eventually, they will find the loophole, like getting a Medicaid doctor to sign off on them being medically unemployable, so free stuff without work + great parking.
ReplyDelete:) In Mexico it used to be you could buy anything from the pharmacy by just walking in, but later you had to pay a $25 fee to the "doctor" to prescribe them.
