Massachusetts’ only Confederate memorial will be taken down in the near future, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The stone monument on Georges Island bears the name of 13 Confederate soldiers who died while imprisoned at Fort Warren during the Civil War. The headstone has been encased in a wooden box for several months, while the state decided what to do with it.
