Poland Pushes For Permanent US Military Base, Offers Up To $2B

NATO Poland

In order to have a permanent United States’ military presence in the country, Poland is willing to put in as much as $2 billion, a defense military proposal by the latter claimed.

The proposal comes a month before the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit begins in Brussels, and is another push in Poland’s desire to have American troops in the country. Poland has expressed this need since its entry into NATO in 1999; however, the current urgency is due to Russia’s annexation of the Crimea region.

  1. Move a current German base to Poland. Germany has become an unreliable Nato ally while Poland and eastern Europe are far more reliable allies willing to actually fund their own defense.

  2. Move the troops from Britain and Germany. Let the Muslims have them.

  3. This is probably not a bad idea but... Sea access to Poland is far more difficult and easily chocked off. So a permanent joint base with the Poles would also require an increased naval and air presence.

With the Soviet Union gone most all coastline of the Baltic is now Western aligned or neutral but not friendly to Moscow in military terms.

Nonetheless the Russians still regard the Baltic Sea, the Baltic states and Poland their exclusive sphere of influence. They can still access the Baltic via the Gulf of Finland and more importantly the Kaliningrad Oblast. The northern half of the former German Providence state of East Prussia.

There they maintain a considetable naval, army and most importantly, Air Force operations. It might be geographically isolated from the rest of Russia. The area is maintained as a fortress. One that also has a high concentration of heavy industry used to supply and maintain it.

Draw a 1500 mile radios around it and yo get an idea of how date they can strike into the surrounding territory.
