Rand Paul: There is only one plan in Congress that will balance the budget in 5 years — and that’s my PENNY PLAN!

My budget plan, which has been submitted and could be voted on as soon as THIS WEEK, actually balances the federal budget in five years. HOW?

Well, it used to be we could balance by cutting one penny out of every dollar. Now, because politicians keep spending more and more of your money, we need to cut TWO pennies out of every dollar.

It shouldn't be this hard. And like it or not, I'm going to make everyone vote on this plan in the Senate.

Would you be able to make do with 98% of your income if you had to? Of course, most people could. And that's all we are asking the government to do.

By cutting two pennies out of every dollar, they were going to spend.

That's it. Congress can decide to NOT cut in one place, and cut more in another. That's important because maybe we don't want to cut X, but Y could sure use a more significant haircut.

The details are not in the budget plan, so no one has an excuse to vote NO!

But they'll try. That's why I'm writing to you today.

  1. Political slight of hand. Two cents isn't much, but two cents out of every dollar is 2%, which is significant. I'd be happy if they'd start by creating a budget with no increases from the previous year. Once they do that they can think about cuts.

    1. As he said, most people would do fine if receiving 2% less.

    2. I agree that most people could do OK with 2% less, but we're talking about the country, not a person. Consider that about 60% of the federal budget is mandatory. i.e., it can't be cut. In order to reduce the overall budget by 2% the descretionary budget, which is about 40% of the total budget, would have to be cut by 5%. Descretionary includes military spending. A 5% cut is a big deal.
