Whatever happened to boys will be boys and girls will be girls.....?
The Army is asking for female volunteers to possibly attend a Ranger course in the spring.
A final decision will be made in January on whether or not to
actually conduct the one-time assessment, officials said. Since the Army
needs to identify, select and begin training for potential
participants, two “All Army Activity” or ALARACT messages are being sent
to the field asking for volunteers. The assessment course would be open to all women in the ranks of specialist to major, if they can meet the physical qualifications and prerequisites.
Female observers would also be needed to serve as advisors to the Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade. Staff sergeants to master sergeants would be eligible, along with chief warrant officers 2 and 3, first lieutenants, captains and majors. The deadline to submit selection packets is Oct. 10. Potential students and observers will be identified in December.

well, of course they do - anyone who would have protested this stupidity has been forced to retire or quit, or is under extreme duress to keep his/her mouth shut until they can get out as well.
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteI could only agree with this if the same standards apply to the women as to the men with no exceptions and then all the Females must be in a female-only unit... wonder how that would shake out.
ReplyDeleteThey say the same will apply, but the course is brutal.
DeleteThe key factor is the segregation of the sexes - no way can you drum out of most men not to be protective of the female in the same harm's way. If held to the same standards, then there is little to worry about as the women will never make it. One punch to the jaw, or the gut, and 99.9% of them are down for the count and ticked off that they were hit so hard. {
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess there are some she-devils. :) I have a post on Confederate ones, but can't find it now.
DeleteNo doubt there are some she-devils out there, but I don't think you find them joining the Army ;)
ReplyDeleteI found it and shall post. :)
DeleteI have spoken with several women that i know in the military and asked if they would want to be Special Forces. Everyone said " Those guys are crazy"
ReplyDeleteIt would be an honor to be one, but I'd never make it. Wouldn't even give it a thought except in dreams. :) Two of my childhood friends did do it though, and I am most proud of them.
DeleteI have a friend that did 23 years with 1st group SF. He said it helps to be a little crazy cause it will get you through the training.
ReplyDeleteI bet. When my friend Hamp went though before going to Vietnam, it was 24 months and now it's 18, but just imagine........
